@nyrrylcadiz
He DOES still look super dark, yeah. I'll play with brightening him up a bit.
Maybe a cooler colour than the many browns will help him pop without taking attention away from the trumpet.
Blue dogs are a thing, right?
-
@art-of-b Of course blue dogs are real, did you ever see Blues Clues?
-
Looks great. The celery in mom's ears are a bit too green. I'd either add that green somewhere else too or tone it down. Love the mouse with the headphones
-
@art-of-b you could repeat the grey in the wall art.
-
@nasvikdraws I may tone down the green of the celery, yeah. I do want them to pop a little, though. I'll fiddle with it
@chrisaakins Thanks for the suggestion! I wouldn't have thought of repeating colours. I'll try that for sure. I'm still internalizing the videos on colour and light and picking colour and stuff. I've got a looooooooot to learn.
-
@art-of-b first of all, this is beautiful. My only critique is what @Jabbernewt mentioned. I think it can be fixed by adding some neck in front of the trombone, and adjusting the lighting on on the tube behind his head.
Cheers!
-
Thanks! Yeah, I'll see what I can do about fixing that trombone this week. I really wanna fix that dog first, though...
It's amazing how you can get dozens of reference images and sketch a whole bunch of trombones being played from different angles and get all the way to close to finish and then...
It's completely wrong.
It. Is. Hilarious
Lessons learned all the time, right?
I think I may just say that it's not a trombone. It's a neck-wringing huhmuhnuhphone. Strangle-o-phone? Lynch-horn. So many possiblities
-
@art-of-b well hey, man, it seems to me that these are more like final adjustments than anything else. You're so close to finishing, and we're all rooting for that eventual end! Just a little while longer!
-
Lol. I don't think it would bother me at all if I didn't have a 3 year old, who gets her head stuck in things all the time. I just worry about that poor boy with his head stuck in a trombone. That would make a great short story though.
-
Wow fantastic work, and your rendering-so envious! Great piece!
-
-
Work progresses!
I used the colour from the picture frame for the dog, and though I still don't like it, I think it's better.
I've learned SO MUCH about colour from this project. At the very least I know that if I had to do it again I'd do it much much better the second time around.
-
Great work man. Mouse has headphones now!
-
I think the dog works now.
-
I love how you chose warm colors for the boy and cool tones for the background characters. I love it. Itβs so dynamic. Itβs so alive!
-
Didn't have time to change the strangle-o-phone to a trombone, but I'm happy enough to submit it
Thank you everyone for your feedback and suggestions! I'm sure it wouldn't have turned out nearly as well without your help.
-
@art-of-b Well, as much as you didn't have the time to switch out the stranglophone, we didn't catch it when you posted it for linework critique. Listen man, this work is phenomenal. The colors alone are intensely appealing, and everything else is just top-notch stuff. I'm glad you recognize your mistakes, but you've done good work here, and it has been a privledge to see it all come together!
-
"We didn't catch it when you posted it for linework critique." Aha! It's YOUR fault! XD
Thanks for the kind words. This was a fun one to do and as much as it has its problems I've learned a LOT from doing it.
-
@art-of-b Hahaha, weeeeeell, yes and no
Oh I bet you learned a lot! I know in my personal experience I learned a lot as well!
-
@art-of-b it is so great seeing your process from thumbnails to finished piece!
