Anyone planning to do Inktober this year?
-
@missmushy I plan to use the September prompt "fall" as a starter to help create my character and story that will unfold for Inktober. It is a stretch for me, but I have one in progress idea for "fall" and story scenes for each October day reasonably laid out (writing and imagination) lols. I just don't want to give myself too much. So I am going to work on the major stable elements in September for "fall" that would bleed into Inktober.

@missmushy Seems like you've got some good ideas for a theme! I always love fairytale themes but that's just me.
As for myself I'm going to try a dream theme and it will hopefully have a story it will build on. I always overestimate how much I can do though... I hope I can actually finish it this year. I do have a class starting on the 14th, so I'll be super happy if I can at least do 15 drawings. I have my notebook picked out and I will do thumbnail sketches / warmups on the "back" of each page and the full drawing on the "front" that way I don't worry about bleedthrough
I agree that following the prompt list is challenging... but it does push me to think outside my comfort zone. I don't know if I'll stick to it a 100%, we'll see.
Good luck!

Thanks @lady-chamomile! Looking forward to seeing the dream theme - sounds interesting. Good luck to you too!

@heather-boyd thatโs a great idea! Will be cool to see everyoneโs images

@missmushy Well, I don't feel fast either but I'll do it anyhow. I decided to take advantage of the challenge so I can improve my inking and drawing skills. I'll do every day drawing studies using only a ball point pen!

I am going to try. The inking class is inspiring me.

I want to participate, but this time digitally on my iPad. Last year I stopped half way, partly because I did it traditionally and this just isn't enjoyable enough for me and partly because I followed a not suitable for me theme. I take my iPad every day to work with me and sketch in any break I get, but the pen and paper somehow don't work for me anymore. The point is to commit to draw something every day. Good luck to all that will join and hopefully we come out of October will many new skills. Cheers!

Hello! Very cool to see everyone prepping for next month. Can't wait to see y'alls work
I'm committing myself to Inktober this year woo! Last year was the first I tried and I only did a few fanart pieces to go along with a topic. This year I'll be focusing on creating my own content/design choice.
I recently decided to go down the children's book illustrator path and am reaquainting myself with the elements and principles of design.
Hopefully along the way I can find a chosen style. But I'll use the coming month as a back-to basics-study so most of it will be experiments. I wrote down some notes to look at if I get stuck. Just a board of related subjects but it's been helping plan a few upcoming topics by playing mix and match

Jake gave the advice to start doing the pencil drawings before Inktober, so there's just the inking left to be done. I think Iยดll try it that way, so I'm not that troubled to come up with great ideas (or ideas at all) on a daily basis....

I'm doing a monster project which will include some ink but watercolor as well. I have been doing it for a couple of years in October. It actually started with Inktober though. I get descriptions of monsters from kids and then draw/paint them. This year I am doing it on a postcard and sending it to the kid. It's a lot of fun and exercises the creativity. I recommend it. You could use any media-traditional or digital. I am strictly traditional at this point and may always be

@jade-v What a great idea!
-
So I wasn't planning to do it this year, but now I think I might give it a go
I've been wanting for a while to design an all black and white print collection, and I've just now seen the possible connection between that and Inktober!

Yes, I'm going to try. The one year I made it all the way through the month, I definitely felt my creative flow and technique loosening up. It was exhausting, though, to let go of "perfection" and just get it done each day of that month.
