I will deffo be doing it. Last year was the first time I've ever completed it and it was so fulfilling! I actually did inktober and Drawlloween at the same time so I was making myself do 2 drawings a day for the whole month. This year ill just be doing inktober. I would recommend it. It helped me grow my art style and I gained alot of new followers plus I found some new amazing artists to follow!

So pumped hearing so many people here are doing inktober!
This will be my third attempt at completing inktober... hopefully third time's a charm lol.

        Things I'm doing to prepare:

        1. Practicing waking up early (5:45am) to give myself an hour of distraction free drawing time in the morning
        2. Coming up with a theme in addition to the prompts (maybe people and pets? Or girls and flowers?)
        3. Have my supplies ready

I might be doing my version of inktober this year and include watercolor, but I'm not sure yet

        Best of luck to everyone!

Indeed. I haven't done it at all in years past, but would love to jump in this year. Hopefully this community can help motivate and keep us going! I know showing up every single day can be so hard, but worth it.

@lady-chamomile I like your list of preparations, good solid ideas to help get past the resistance!

If anyone has any tips on getting through it, I'd love to hear them.

            @robgale oooooh! Glad it's helpful ^_^

I've also heard making extra drawings whenever possible would help if some unforeseen occurrence prevents you from doing that day's drawing... but I don't know if people would consider that cheating lol.

OMG guys! I saw the coolest inked horse with gold accents on Drawing wiff Waffles' youtube channel. I'll be incorporating gold ink for sure! Here's the one I'm getting -> https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0069EYIYA/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2IWCJ0AJPPRJZ πŸ˜ƒ

Sooo how's the sketching/practice going? I have been trying to do some brainstorming using the prompt list as a starting point while also thinking about a common theme to work on. Themes under consideration : wacky pets ( gives me chance to practice drawing animals inspired by prompts), Myth or fairytales (might be good for future children's book portfolio pieces),
Drawing in style of (to help me incorporate learning from others techniques)
I am finding generating ideas based on the the prompt list challenging though but it could just be me.

@missmushy I plan to use the September prompt "fall" as a starter to help create my character and story that will unfold for Inktober. It is a stretch for me, but I have one in progress idea for "fall" and story scenes for each October day reasonably laid out (writing and imagination) lols. I just don't want to give myself too much. So I am going to work on the major stable elements in September for "fall" that would bleed into Inktober.

@missmushy Seems like you've got some good ideas for a theme! I always love fairytale themes but that's just me.

As for myself I'm going to try a dream theme and it will hopefully have a story it will build on. I always overestimate how much I can do though... I hope I can actually finish it this year. I do have a class starting on the 14th, so I'll be super happy if I can at least do 15 drawings. I have my notebook picked out and I will do thumbnail sketches / warmups on the "back" of each page and the full drawing on the "front" that way I don't worry about bleedthrough

I agree that following the prompt list is challenging... but it does push me to think outside my comfort zone. I don't know if I'll stick to it a 100%, we'll see.

                      Good luck! πŸ˜ƒ

@missmushy Well, I don't feel fast either but I'll do it anyhow. I decided to take advantage of the challenge so I can improve my inking and drawing skills. I'll do every day drawing studies using only a ball point pen! πŸ™‚

I want to participate, but this time digitally on my iPad. Last year I stopped half way, partly because I did it traditionally and this just isn't enjoyable enough for me and partly because I followed a not suitable for me theme. I take my iPad every day to work with me and sketch in any break I get, but the pen and paper somehow don't work for me anymore. The point is to commit to draw something every day. Good luck to all that will join and hopefully we come out of October will many new skills. Cheers!

Hello! Very cool to see everyone prepping for next month. Can't wait to see y'alls work πŸ™‚

I'm committing myself to Inktober this year woo! Last year was the first I tried and I only did a few fanart pieces to go along with a topic. This year I'll be focusing on creating my own content/design choice.

I recently decided to go down the children's book illustrator path and am reaquainting myself with the elements and principles of design.

Hopefully along the way I can find a chosen style. But I'll use the coming month as a back-to basics-study so most of it will be experiments. I wrote down some notes to look at if I get stuck. Just a board of related subjects but it's been helping plan a few upcoming topics by playing mix and match

Jake gave the advice to start doing the pencil drawings before Inktober, so there's just the inking left to be done. I think IΒ΄ll try it that way, so I'm not that troubled to come up with great ideas (or ideas at all) on a daily basis....

I'm doing a monster project which will include some ink but watercolor as well. I have been doing it for a couple of years in October. It actually started with Inktober though. I get descriptions of monsters from kids and then draw/paint them. This year I am doing it on a postcard and sending it to the kid. It's a lot of fun and exercises the creativity. I recommend it. You could use any media-traditional or digital. I am strictly traditional at this point and may always be πŸ™‚

So I wasn't planning to do it this year, but now I think I might give it a go πŸ™‚ I've been wanting for a while to design an all black and white print collection, and I've just now seen the possible connection between that and Inktober!

Yes, I'm going to try. The one year I made it all the way through the month, I definitely felt my creative flow and technique loosening up. It was exhausting, though, to let go of "perfection" and just get it done each day of that month.
