@art-of-b Wow - super nice! For feedback i think the only thing that pops out for me is that the tail may read as the lower jaw of the creature - it did for me and even now when i have figured out that it is in fact the tail it keeps reading as being the lower jaw - the perfectly lower-jaw-like location of the tail is the main culprit i believe - it could also be that the teeth above and the bumps (osteoderms?) below look very similar and the overbite leaves a visual absence of the lower jaw making the chin look like it might be the soft palate of the monster. It might be just me though so feel free to ignore - really nice drawing!

Thanks! That tail DOES look like a curving lower jaw, doesn't it? Now i can't unsee it! XD

I think the value stage will help to clarify that it's a tail (yet more buff-outs)

Half done the values (the teacher and other kids aren't done yet) But I'm gonna have to put this away for a little bit while I do actual work so thought I'd post.

I may remove the background and keep it as a spot, too.

And from here it's all flattened down ('cept the linework... still need that safety line) and then rest is colour picking and painting. I think I'm gonna try and make the shadow from Munch's tail extend up on the girl and teacher's leg.

                    Child-based diet. πŸ˜‚ That's a new one I haven't heard of yet.

                    Looking great as always!

I reallly love this one. Hahahaha. You are such a talent, man! The only thing that I would try is to change the expression of the little girl. She looks too confident to me. I agree with @lenwen. I have a feeling that you're going to be a finalist this month too. Lol 🐲

                        @tessaw

Contrary to popular belief, Monstrum Domestica do NOT eat children (apart from a few VERY isolated and extraordinary cases). They survive on a diet consisting mainly of processed fibrous material (cotton being a staple of most monsters).

@nasvikdraws Thanks! The little girl does look rather confident, doesn't she? I'll think about changing her expression. I kind of like the idea of a know-it-all getting to present to her class, though πŸ™‚

Superb work. Wonderful idea, awesome composition, and I totally envy your linework!

Your coloring seems a bit dark and dull, though, and I’m wondering whether this wouldn’t look better with cell shading rather than gradients and with brighter and more saturated highlights.

Just a minor nitpick, but the kid hiding behind the teacher seems to be missing his legs...
I love all the other kids, their expression and design - this is just an awesome piece!

@art-of-b I think the girl’s expression suits perfectly with the situation. She’s trying to convince her teacher and classmates that this misunderstood monster is not what he seems. She has to be confident. And from the looks of it, it seems like she really knows her stuff. Therefore there’s really no reason for her to feel the opposite. Plus, it’s really a funny attribute for kids to act like they know it all. It adds more character than just having some bland girl presenting a monster as impressive as this one. Keep her expression as is. It looks amazing.

@Art-of-B I think this looks great. ONe anatomical note: The drool looks like it is coming from above the mouth. Unless it is not drool....

Thanks! My linework's one of the few things I think is heading in the right direction πŸ˜‰

The colours are quite dull at the moment, yeah. This time around I'm trying to artificially control my saturation until the last stages of the painting since I feel that I make things way WAY too saturated (and when everything's saturated (special) nothing is). Colour's something I've always (and still do) have a hard time with. If it doesn't work out I'll repaint and trust my saturation instincts and go nuts with bright colours again πŸ™‚

I agree that cel shading would look better, and I did it for a long time with my webcomic. There's a few reasons I'm not using it, foremost being I don't think it helps develop my skills as much as trying to render shadows and such more realistically.

As for the kid hiding behind the teacher, he is in fact the teacher's second torso growing out of her spine. She is the horrifying misunderstood monster. Nah, I'm kidding, you're absolutely right πŸ™‚ I actually didn't notice! I'll have to try and paint in some legs without making it look like an angry mess of tangents.

Thanks for your feedback! I really love the colour in your work so it's awesome to get your thoughts on how the colour's coming along.

@Art-of-B been meaning to ask: are you working as a full time artist? Your work is certainly good enough.

Came back to it and did some fixin' and finalizin'. I'm gonna let it sit overnight then maybe make some changes tomorrow night before submitting. This is the stage where I start to pick shiny colours and such so things start to pop a little more.

Thanks again for all the critiques and suggestions thus far πŸ™‚
