So I'm working on this piece as a present for my family for Christmas. Its my family as squirrels drinking hot drinks and playing cards. Its getting close to done and I don't want to overwork it. But I'm concerned about the values. What do you all think?

Also any advice on highlighting too.

I've experimented with highlighting on the hanging blue bottle, but not sure if I like it. Also, I'm still working on the blue values on the right side of the piece. I think its a bit too dark still.

This is a neat idea and I agree that it appears dark. Don't be afraid to brighten the light value on the back wall if that helps spread the value range.

I love the environment you've created. Darkening the values a bit of the two squirrels in the foreground might pull things together a bit too. I really like this piece!

@jon-anderson I like that idea, I'll try lighting up the far wall and see how that looks, Thanks! 🙂

@kathrynadebayo Oooh, Yes! I have noticed the squirrels seemed kinda bunched together. I think that idea will help bunches. Thanks!

I agree with darkening the value of the two squirrels closest to us. What about also adding some highlights to the edges of the squirrels closest to the window?

Update: Lightened up the background a bit and added some shadow on the two foreground squirrels. Still working on Highlights.

@Squirrelsize I hate to highjack your post on your squirrels, what are great by the way, but here is my papaws truck. I did a time lapse on YouTube. I really did just think your image was strong enough for a shirt. It took me a second to realize there may be a deeper reason in my subconscious why I felt connected to it.

@squirrelsize Thanks! Those videos were fun to make. Maybe I’ll crank a few out again. My “people” don’t live on YouTube so my steam kinda fizzeled for that format.
