Our SVS Virtual Studio 2019!

I am also working on a short comic story idea. Roughly though.
Also, my art for the BIG art contest : D

So just to mix things up, I am taking some courses specific to licensing this year on Make Art that Sells. One of our first assignments was to design something suitable for kitchen fabric market plus coordinates. My mind always wants to go for a joke hence the little vignettes of wacky characters. I held back on some of my crazier ideas though

An ad for my friend's music -
Meditating about my goals for the year ahead, and finishing has become a theme. So, I ended up making this to remind and inspire me. Finish folding the laundry. Finish reading those books. Finish the thank you notes. Finish some visual stories.
(It's amusing to me that the words are like a quarter inch or so too low; I finished it, but it's definitely not perfect)

I love the virtual studio idea!
Here's a link to what I'm currently working on. It's a graphic novel to raise awareness about sex trafficking. I would appreciate any comments or thoughts.

My friend asked my to paint some olive leaves for some flyers for a conference. Here’s the start. I’ll probably do a wreath and some single branches too. That way they can use what they need depending if it’s the poster or the handout. -
@dvandegriend A look at a page of my graphic novel.

Moving from bats to snails. I had a snow day so I spent the day doing research, sketches, and this model for the next picture I want to do featuring a snail.

This started out as a draw 50 things challenge for myself but wanted to connect the story with two other pieces. And to actually finish an idea I had rolling around in my head. So these are: A boy who loves giraffes and aviation, placed in a 1960’s era home watching the launch, then going to sleep upstairs to dream of traveling wonderment. Made digitally with Procreate. I’ll try to post in here more, because 2019 is new and there are more illustrations to do! Onward!

Thought I’d share my progress over the past year

Trying to make a poster for my sister-in-laws lessons for church. Can art time for church count as tithing?!? Ha! -
@whitney-simms As a minister, I definitely think that art time for church counts as tithing!
-
@buddy-skelton That's huge!!
-
@braden-hallett I so love your character designs! You're so good at it

I am really trying to get better at digital drawing but I don't know what it is... The pen is big and feels unnatural making it hard for me to even draw a straight line...
It is a matter of practising more? And how? Do you guys recognize this when you just first started out with digital drawing?
-
@sas When I first started with digital there was a huge disconnect for me between my tablet and the monitor. It was hard making an adjustment when I wasn't physically looking at my drawing/painting tool. It just took practice with it to become comfortable. I still feel more competent with a pencil/pen when doing quick sketches though.
If you are using tablet and monitor separately (not cintique / ipad pencil) I would definitely look at your settings and make sure your tablet has the same aspect ratio as your monitor. If its not then you will always draw misshapen ellipses/circles .
Other than that just get the mileage with it and do some warm up / line exercises every chance you get.
