a video that made me re-design my thumbnails... yours are great, so I don't think it would be as useful as for me, but I though you'd enjoy the video as well. Cheers ! -
@Alicja-W Awe! Thanks your input is sooo helpful. This is the most heaviest environmental book I've ever done. It has its challenges for sure. The more I look at it the more I agree with putting the stone walkway all across the left bottom page. A lot of the spreads will have that kind of layout, with a fully rendered page and then the text page with a few elements embellishing it. Wow, I haven't thought of this spread in that way, about it leading up to the climax of the story. That's something I definitely need to be away of. Thanks again!
Thanks @BichonBistro I really had fun sketching those little birds.
@CLCanadyArts Awe! Thats so sweet! I'll have to personally sign it for you
@Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen Hey Marsha! the project is going great! I got at least 12 hours of sketching down this weekend! I'll post in a bit what I got done.
@Julia You can do it girl! I would love to hear more about your book project! And thanks for the video link! I'll check it out for sure.

Mostly finished the drawing stage of spread 11 from week two! yay! All caught up!
Spread 5 is almost done! Just a few finishing touches and maybe a second sunflower so the one sunflower wont get too lonely. Oh! That almost sounded like Bob Ross! I think I'm related to him, hehehehe
Mostly done with spread 9 too! might be tweaking a few thing here and there as it sits and pickles this week.
Now I gotta figure out what two spreads I'm gonna start this week
-
Okay! Here are some book cover ideas! I'm not sure what the title will be yet, and you all can help me with that. Right now i have it as: "When I Remember You" I looked that title up and there are a whole lot of "I Remember You" books out there already which is similar. Let me know your thoughts/ideas of book titles/names.
Which thumbnail touches your heart strings? I have several favs. I'm really liking numbers 1, 5, 6 and 7. What are you'll thoughts?

@Squirrel-Size I love #7 ️ but really the only one that doesn’t grab me is #6.

Guess what happened last week! I got the flue! Boo! It wasn't bad, but I was unable to complete my last weeks goals of drawing two spreads. So now I have a ton to catch up on this week and I'm going on a business trip on top of that. Oh, boy! This is going to be an interesting week. Here is what I got done so far from last weeks spreads:
comments and suggestions welcom
So far, I'm really happy with spread 1. I love where its going, I still have a few things to work on. Below is the thumbnail:
I still have a lot to do on spread 6. But so far I like how the hat and the humming birds have turned out(side note) I made Little Squirrel a bit longer than I would otherwise because I've found that the gutter (which is the line down the middle) likes to eat up the page making horizontal things look shorter after its printed.

looks wonderful

Hey Elizabeth,
I've seen many children's book covers where a child hugs a parent, so I suggest #6 as a safe bet.
Also, do you think 'A Little Place to Remember' is a good title for the book? -
@Squirrel-Size sorry you’ve been down with the flu
That hat with the hummingbird looks great!
I can almost see your palette already ️
You are doing a fabulous job.Hope the business trip doesn’t wear you out...

@MichaelaH Thanks
Thats a good point @2MK. I like that idea. And I love that title! I'll add it to my list
@BichonBistro Thanks, I'm feeling much better now. and yeah, I'm itching to color it!

@Squirrel-Size really delicate drawings and wonderful story. I really love how you draw the garden and plantations.

UPDATE!
Helloooooo Art Peeps,
I'm back! My business trip was amazing! It was quite eventful and I learned a lot. Some sad news though, while up there in St. Louis, my truck broke down and it was a bit of an expensive fix. So I'm going back to full time at work againBut I guess that just means I'm gonna have to give up a few other things in order to finish this book at the dummy book deadline on Sep 1st.
I don't know about you all, but I'm a very social person, and thats probably why I usually don't get much illustrations work done. I'm just gonna have to hang out with my Ipad during the weekends instead of my chums. My poor buddies are going to think I fell of the side of the earth. hahaha, Oh well. At least there is FaceTime to prove I'm still alive.
But I'm determined to create this thing!Oh! also, I accidentally gave my number to a little 20-year old while in St. Louis, and now he wont stop texting me! ugh!
My progress from over last week and this weekend.

Yeah, going back to full time at work is making it super hard! I managed to finish drawing spread #2, but I just barely touched my two spreads from last week. It didn't help that I had several pre engagements this weekend. But the good news! This next weekend is empty! Which means I'm going to be sitting on my butt drawing all weekend to catch up! Only two weeks left before my drawing deadline! And four weeks to have my dummy-book printed out and done. This week, I'm going to start on the cover. I'll be posting more thumbnails on that later this week.
My goals for the next several weeks:
Aug18-24: finish spreads #4 & #7, Cover thumbnails and start cover
Aug 25-31: Final drawing edits and final details added to spreads, Finish cover, drawing and color.
Sept 1-7: Formate book, Print
Sept 8 - 13 Bind book
Due Date for the Open Portfolio Preview at Mid central SCBWI Conference Sept 14th
After the SCBWI conference, I'm going to take a little break, then start the process to finishing the book and have it out my late March 2020

@BichonBistro Thanks! I appreciate it

I love this so much! The artwork is wonderful and this story is just a pure piece of you and your mom! Amazing! Can't want to see layout #2 painted. Love the use of depth of field. You really move through the image.

Awe! Thanks @Whitney-Simms Thats so sweet I'm just itching to start coloring it!

I was thinking, this would be a sweet book to sell at a flowershop for the bereaved who have lost their mothers and especially for kids who lose their mothers. It could be so comforting for a child. Even if they don't plant gardens there might be something else that would bring them peace that connected them with their mother. Cooking, reading together, etc. I love this~!
