@MikeCañas I would also finish the right side fence and grass and maybe add a sky in the background or actually with the camera angle grass behind the fence with maybe a few dug up holes?

Yeah, I was thinking of re-drawing the basset a bit bigger. Thanks!

I was trying to leave that area blank but I think I’ll play around with it. I agree that the big dog needs more around/behind him. Thanks you for liking my style!

Wow, I can’t believe I didn’t see the missing fence. Thanks for pointing that out! Yeah, I need to play around with the other yard. I didn’t like what I had in my sketches so I need to do more I guess. Thanks for the help!

@MikeCañas your style is really appealing! I love the expressions on the two dogs that I can see faces for. As for adding stuff. I would look to add things that can explain the story that is happening here. Some storytelling questions that I had were: Why is the dog wearing balloons? Is he trying to escape? @Chip-Valecek had a great idea for dug up holes to support that. Where is he going? More foliage can give us an idea of which direction he is headed. Right now he looks like he is headed toward a big scary dog since the grass is blowing that way. Does the dog want to go that way? If not he may need more reaction. How did the balloons get on the dog? Adding a helium tank or string might give us clues. The little dog on the ground looks suspicious, is he part of the plot or just a bystander? If the dog is surprised I would expect it to be running around and barking instead of watching with suspicion. Maybe more action there? Where does the flying dog want to go? Sausage truck, neighbors bbq, to chase a cat? This is a really fun concept! I am looking forward to seeing where you take it!

One last thought, since cool colors recede and warm colors come forward, the warm little dog is a great focal point! Consider warming up the balloons on his back to match and give us more perspective. Right now they blend in with the dog behind the fence and flatten your image a little.

Thank you so much for all the advice and suggestions. I totally agree with you that the story could be made much more clear. I really like the bbq suggestion so I might go in that direction. I’ll definitely play around and see what I can come up with. Thank you so much for taking the time to write all those suggestions!

@MikeCañas you have a great style! I especially love that the floating dog is so fat. It make me chuckle. Funny and clever is my favorite kind of illustration!

Here’s an update to my illustration. @juliepeelart made some great suggestions that I couldn’t pass up so I got rid of the little dog and replaced it with the dog house and tools he used to get floating. I also expanded on the story to show that his target is a comically huge steak cooking on a grill. Thanks again @juliepeelart for your great suggestions!

@MikeCañas This looks so good! I love how your narrative suddenly just bloomed into something so cohesive. Your first image had me wondering why things were happening and if there was supposed to be text that would explain everything, and your last one tied it all up into such a concise story that requires no explanation at all. Very well done!!

@MikeCañas I love the corgi butt and the beckoning steak 😊. Take this with a grain of salt because it is not based on anything other than a visceral reaction, but I want the doghouse to be less parallel to the sidewalk for some reason.

@MikeCañas Oh yes! This version turned out great! I feel I understand the story better in this picture, and the overall environment seems more natural. LOVE IT! :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_closed_eyes:
