Amanda's Sketchbook
-
@BichonBistro thank you. Kids around my town tag almost anything. Not all of them respect or comply with unspoken rules about respecting others creativity, let alone other people's property
there's been a serious spate of car vandalism going on lately. Mostly senseless destruction as opposed to graffiti.
Tagging the art doesn't happen too often, but it does happen.
-
These are great. I'll have to keep my eye on your sketchbook posts more often
-
@Amanda-Jean I like it! It's so cheerful! We had those painted electrical boxes in San Jose when we were living there. Are you in California?
-
@Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen many thanks! No, Iām in Brisbane, Australia
-
@Amanda-Jean oh! Quite a ways from California
-
Just across the pond though!

I started on this in Procreate and I have a little lesson to share... the moral of the story being: DUPLICATE YOUR FILE BEFORE YOU CHANGE IT!!! You see, I was going to share the progress, but the image size was quite big, so I wanted to downsize. And instead of pressing one option, I accidentally exited, and so Procreate saved the smaller size. Now that's all I have to work with... I guess it wasn't meant to be
In any case, I am very drawn to using textures and especially creating a colouring pencil look lately. Never could do much justice with real colouring pencils, but digital pencils is heck yeah!
To be continued....

Update... this is going to take me a while

Giving the wolf a miss for a bit because I painted myself into a corner and had a hard time doing shadows on his shirt. Meanwhile, here's something else that I had fun with this morning.
-
@Amanda-Jean Very cute one
-
@Amanda-Jean love how you did the colors on the coat and the water reflections. I love the colors you chose. I am a big fan of bright colors in art.
-
@Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen thank you! Me too
-
@Amanda-Jean I just had fun looking through your art. Great stuff! I think you have a nice sense for adding textures and details without ever overdoing it.
-
@Zachary-Drenski Thank you, that is very kind of you to say! I am experimenting a lot, it's heaps of fun!
And speaking of...
Something from tonight which ended totally not how it started (I don't remember how it started though).
-
Today's procreate noodling. Edit... changed my mind, took them out.
I am interested in recreating this as a traditional painting perhaps. Have a canvas that fits the dimensions.
-
Wow! I really love your style of illustration. That werewolf/dog man in a shirt piece is wonderful!
-
@lovetherobot thank you, this style is a recent development for me but I like where it's going. I still mean to finish that werewolf too!
-
Attempted this faux cut-out style piece. I started it in Procreate and then finished in Photoshop. Had some issues with the colours which I now think had something to do with the way I used texture this time, and it will be something to remain mindful of in the future if using this effect again.
Gosh it was fun though
-
@Amanda-Jean The faux cut-out style is so neat! Your work has such cool textures and the cut-out style adds an extra punch. There is so much dimension to the witch (as if she is actually popping off the page/screen).
I didn't notice anything "off" with the colors, but I'm still learning. Could you explain a little more what you mean? Do you not like the colors? Or is it just that you imaged the colors differently in you mind?
-
@Kayla-Groening thank you!
I didn't intend for it to be quite so dark. The values of the colours are more intense and it lost some of its vibrancy. I actually had to do some colour correction and add adjustment layers to lighten and saturate my overall colour.
Don't usually need to take that step.
