Hello from Calgary, Alberta, Canada
-
Hello SVS! Long time creeper, first time posting- I signed up this morning and am pretty excited about it.
I graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Art, focused in printmaking, in 2015 from the Alberta College of Art and Design (now called the Alberta University of the Arts). I commited most of my time post-college to working multiple part time jobs, and have put very little time towards my art practice. I managed a comic book store for 3 years, have been part time at an independent bookstore for 4 years, and have been working at various art supply stores for the past 8 years.
My goal for the upcoming year is simple: Make Art; Sell Art. My biggest obstacle has been overwhelming myself with ideas, to the detriment of putting pencil to paper. I have plans for over a dozen graphic novel projects, designs for card games, workshop ideas, ideas of gallery shows, children's books, and shirt designs. I’m also in a dungeons and dragons actual play podcast! I’ve recently recognized symptoms of Adult ADD in myself and just started to take steps to mitigate them. Following these steps have seen me at my best for the past month, thus leading me to take the step into joining SVS and start falling in love with the process of making art again.
I’m looking forward to contributing to the community, and if anyone has any technical questions regarding art materials, or looking for comic and book recommendations, I would love to help!

@CosmicAmazing thanks for posting! Wait make art...sell? Art? What is this concept?
Kidding, Hi and hoping to see your stuff at some point! I too work a part time job and have been trying to get my art seen and get offered some kind of money job.This inktober I am going to focus on silly gnome art that I can perhaps make into prints to sell or formulate an idea to make a silly gnome comic.

@CosmicAmazing A fellow Canadian! And not in Toronto! Hello from Kamloops BC :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes:
Welcome to the forums! This is a great place to get feedback and get in some practice.
I think your goals of 'make art sell art' aligns with pretty much everyone here, so you're in good company

Welcome fellow Canadian! I have family in Calgary, I’m closer to Toronto. And I studied and specialized in Print Making. I liked Lino and Wood cut but I don’t do any of it now. If I can find some old work I can share it if your interested.
You will enjoy it here, we are very good at making people feel welcomed!

@Erin-Cortese thank you!

@Heather-Boyd yay fellow Printmaker! I'd love to see some print, relief is such a beautiful approach to image making. I gravitated to stencil based print such as silkscreen and lithography. I found relief hard for my brain to process how to make the image, haha
Thanks for the warm welcome! -

So this collection varies but you get the idea. I enjoyed the textures and edge variations and the Lino and wood cut craving but I don’t miss the excess of paper and copies, I have them still in my house.
