Blahaha i love this
-
Work progresses! I may try some other options for the clouds and grey stormy sky
-
@Braden-Hallett Love this
Love the emotion in the piece. Your inking is way out there!
I prefer the blank sky tho (in the inking phase). But that's just me
Looking forward to the result.
-
@Jonas-Zavacky @Braden-Hallett I agree with Jonas. It is a bit distracting and I don't think it adds to the story.
-
Iiiiiiinteresting! I definitely need to play with that sky then. I don't think leaving it completely blank is the answer, but at the same time distracting is no good!
Maybe more leaves, or just a cloud or two.
Thank you both for the feedback

@Braden-Hallett I think if you hatched the whole sky it would work. The negative space clouds compete with your abomination's head.

@Zachary-Drenski oh great. Now I can't unsee it.
-
I agree with @chrisaakins that the sky would look better if you just hatched the whole thing. I like it better than the blank sky because it really helps the dog head stand out but hatching the whole thing would make it compete with the rest of the picture less. Great piece!

I will try that. There is much time to fiddle
-
@Zachary-Drenski I can't actually see it :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes: !
I'll take your word for it it, though and maybe remove that hatchin'
-
@Braden-Hallett you don't need to change it. If you color the piece later there will be no confusion and I realized after I posted my comment that the only reason I saw an eye was because I was viewing a small version on my phone. Awesome drawing!
-
@Zachary-Drenski now I can't 'unsee' it!
Though you are right color would fix it instantly. Unfortunately, this will be submitted without color.
@Braden-Hallett it is the monsters left eye (farthest from us) the eyelid being shut looks like the eyeball because there is no texture on it. Hopefully, that clarifies it.
-
Super cool to see the illustration process. I like the first one.
-
I've been really trying to play around with adding value with ink. I have a very... uh... messy 'style (see, lack of skill) :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_closed_eyes:
I may throw some light shade on the background trees. We'll see. I've got a couple of days, after all
-
@Braden-Hallett intentional messy shows energy thatβs skill but I know what you mean. I have best control traditionally than digital.
-
@Braden-Hallett I like it! I love the looming storm cloud. I think some light hatching on the trees to darken their value is the way to go. It looks great. And I like the "messy" hatching myself. (Maybe its because I am a messy hatcher, too.) It adds to a more natural feel. If I didn't know the sky was done digitally I would guess this for a traditionally done piece. Well done! (And who knows, maybe my piece will make it this time! We can go head to head so mine can be knocked out by this well-done illustration or one of the other swell pieces being put out there!)

Yeah, but YOUR messy hatching looks awesome
And it's allllll digital (though the method of hatching is still the same. Just line after line after line after...)
-
I much prefer this version
Bit more hatching on the trees and some touch ups and I think it'll be done!
-
Callin' it done!
