NOVEMBER CONTEST: SLOWVEMBER

@Robert-Maine Thank you! Glad you like it

@anya-macleod thanks for the tip.
@Pamela-Fraley Saw your work on Instagram. Beautiful piece. I am also learning how to work with watercolor and pencil. So glad finding people here on the same journey.
@Rachel-Horne thank you. Your piece is very playful. I have been looking at a few illustrators working with paper collage, and I want to bring some of the collage energy into my own work. But I do not know where to begin. -
@suenaumi I come from a painting background too and this is my first entry. I think what you've created here is beautiful!
-
Wonderful work everybody!
-
@CLCanadyArts We should be more specific with the cut off time. I will discuss it with the judges and see if we can get a actual time zone cut off. Most everyone has them submitted before I start to pull them all for the slideshow, so its really not an issue.
Great work everyone! I am getting started on the slideshow, it should be ready later today!
-
@Rachel-Horne Thanks! Thatβs what I was going for - glad it gets there for you.
-
@CLCanadyArts wow this really looks great!

@deborah-Haagenson Thank you so much! I am pretty frustrated because I have no idea how to post an adequate picture of a 24x36 canvas on here under 500kb in a way that does it any justice? I suppose its finally time to face the digital world head on and learn what i need to learn (I've been resisting it big-time.) I just don't want to give up the feel, smell, and emotive quality of oil paint, and yet I realize my work just doesn't seem to fit in here. I'm curious, how does it feel to you to transition from traditional painting to digital?
-
@Heather-Boyd Thank you Heather! I'm glad it made you think.
-
@suenaumi I feel the same way. I am dividing up my time between traditional drawing, oil painting and digital artwork. Digital was not going to be my primary focus, but right now it's become that. Actually, I'm glad it has. My three year goal, a year ago, was to be able to illustrate pictures - Environments, Characters in perspective and tell stories with my artwork. I had planned to do that with oil painting and I still plan to, but I am learning so much right now while practicing digital techniques that will help me achieve this goal. I have a long way to go too, so I think it was a good thing I started when I did. I have been using Photoshop since 7.0, so I was lucky there, but using it to draw is where I'm finding difficulty.
-
@Lucelfo I love this! It's my favorite piece!
-
@Rachel-Horne Thank you so much I'm so glad you liked it.
-
@Chip-Valecek Wow, Chip! This piece is amazing! I love the lighting, and how you took the time to make the slimy pieces on the trees 3-dimensional. I also love the color palette, and Gary is just so darn cute! Great work on this one!
-
Great work everyone! I'm so proud of you!!!! : )

@suenaumi I think your piece is beautiful, and I can see how painterly it is even at a small size. When saving a jpeg just compress it a bit and it will reduce the file size. Usually there is a slider to "reduce quality" which is just compressing the file. Compress too much and you will get visual artifacts. . You could always link to a larger version as well.

@deborah-Haagenson uh,thank you!!!!

@suenaumi I get where youβre coming from. I hated digital for a long time and refused to bother with it. Then my wife introduced me to procreate. But it took me a while to get comfy with it. What finally made me change, I had sheets and sheets of paper everywhere. I have to admit Digital helps me to be more organised and use less space and my wife is much happier with me making less mess. But I still sketch, paint and ink sometimes.
If you get stuck again, everyone here will be more than happy to help you out -
@peteolczyk hehe. I am making the opposite transition. I worked digitally (both photoshop and procreate) for a couple of years now, and I want to paint traditionally much much more now. It is messy, it cost a lot more, and it takes more time. Seriously I have no good reasons to do so apart from "It feels right". I think in the end I will try to balance between traditional media and digital stuff.

@xin-li traditional does look amazing

@deborah-Haagenson I love to hear your perspective on this. I had a three year goal too, but I cant believe how fast the first year went! I'm so glad to hear the positives of practicing the digital techniques because it inspires me to give it a try with an open mind. Also I noticed your most recent December post. Great job! I like your take on it with girls in a movie theatre. That's a clever idea for a setting.
@CLCanadyArts Thank you for the positive feedback! I also appreciate you taking the time to give me advice. I feel like I need a digital tutor for even the simplest of things. I will give it a try and next time not wait until the last day of the month so I have some extra time for trial and error!
@peteolczyk Thank you for the inspiration. I'm dragging my feet, but love hearing the benefits. It reinforces the need to push past this resistance! I think this would be a great topic to bring up on the forum, because I love how helpful and invested so many people are, but I want to wait until I have more time to do it justice. As it is it took me two weeks to respond to this thread!
