February WIP nightfall

So cute! Creative idea!
-
So creative! I love the feeling of it. Who would you like us to notice first - the girl painting or the child at the window? If youβd like it to read from left to right, have you considered mirroring the image?
Thank you for sharing...
-
@KathrynAdebayo That's a really good point. I agree - I think mirroring the image would make it stronger, too!
-
This idea is really interesting! It did take me a minute to figure it out, but I got there and was excited!
I think I got tripped up because the shape the girl is painting looks like it's supposed to be a recognizable form, but it's not? Like it looks like she's making a star shape, or there is a gear in the negative space at the bottom. So I was trying to figure out what she was painting for awhile. Then I realized I think she is just going to fully paint the wall.
Also this is really unimportant, but I've always used a paint roller when painting that large of a space LOL
-
@carlianne thank you, I'm going to play with the shape of the paint to get the best contrast / frame the objects in front. I'll be careful that it doesn't look like a deliberate shape. I agree about the roller and did draw that first but then wasn't sure little kids would have access to a roller! (they have tools and machinery though...
) I'll try it with a roller again.
-
@Kaela-McCoy @KathrynAdebayo thanks, flipping it so the night sky travels left to right is a great idea. I'll try it.
-
To be fair, I don't think it really matters if you do a paint brush or a roller. I think whatever you like the look of is fine.
-
@carlianne this is so fun and creative! I think the girl's pose is good. I have done a lot of painting and I believe I may have had that exact pose when I was trying not to move the ladder.
You could also consider a paint sprayer at the other end. I mean those girls are pretty smart! -
I love this too! I loved books as a child that had some type of inventions or machines, like the Homer Price books by Robert McCloskey.

Yep, me too for sure
-
@deborah-Haagenson Iβd not heard of those so had to look them up - very cool. I think I had some usborne puzzle adventure books that had elaborate machinery in them.
-
I love the idea. I think if you could make the first vaccum tube transparent so it is easier for your eve to follow the sky through the machine it will be easier to see what is happening.
I think a roller will instantly communicate that the girl is painting the whole wall, and not a shape.
Also, I kind of like it with the only color being the sky and the paint. -
So I started thinking about the girls, their personalities and backstory and got a little sucked into that over the weekend!
-
@jenithornhill thank you, Iβve been wondering about how I will handle the colours and I do want the sky/paint to be the focus so perhaps will add shadow and maybe a few very light neutral tints to the rest of it but have the sky/paint be bright and colourful.
-
This is a super cute and fun concept! Can't wait to see the progress!
-
I think that's the final line work done
-
@neschof love your character design.
-
@xin-li thank you! Iβm trying to improve everything all at once and itβs a bit overwhelming, so good that Iβm making progress on that
-
Adding some sky/paint
-
@neschof, very cool! The night machine, love it!
