This piece was inspired by feeling disconnected from family and friends due to the covid-19 virus and finding new ways to communicate via iPad and digital apps.connecting_web.jpg

@hakepe Lovely. Maybe have some dolphins "social distancing" in the background - lol

        Too soon for jokes?

Would love to see how it develops in color.

Thank you 🙂 I though about adding some barbed wire and maybe a yellow rubber duck and a fridge floating around...

Wow! What a wonderful touch you have with charcoal and chalk.

@RJWoodworth Thank you. That is a digital drawing I did in Photoshop. I made my own background texture by scanning a watercolor paper with a bit of wash in it. Then edited that texture the way that I wanted. I make my own brushes in photoshop so that I can get the traditional feel. I do not really like the CG look on digital paintings so I always try to add texture and try to make it looking as traditional as possible... been thinking about posting more process videos and maybe tutorials on how to do this. I have teached a few art classes on drawing and digital painting onsite which was fun.

Beautiful piece! I really like the traditional feel. And the artwork on your website is amazing... I'd definitely be interested in checking out some of those process videos and tutorials, should you decide to post some.

@Casual-T Thank you, I am planning on recording my process while painting or drawing in Photoshop. I will post the videos on Youtube once they are done.

One thought would be to give the hearts a pixelated treatment - or to include emojis as well - so we get a clearer message that they're coming to or from a digital source. Might give it more of an editorial illustration vibe.

                    Really appealing! Well done!

It's very emotive with the sadness in her eyes. I wouldn't distract with any floating refrigerators although a pod of dolphins surfacing in the distance would be okay. The dolphins can be a contrast, showing how things were before the virus because animals are free to be together during the pandemic. If you want to connect the picture to the virus, she could have a wrinkled (used and removed) surgical mask on the ground next to her.
