Ah, yes, I was definitely struggling with Clyde's design yesterday--It seems I keep drawing giant, angry toads instead of alligators, lol. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll keep working on his design. -

Haha, I was scared someone was going to say that; he does look like he's right up against the camera. I'll see if I can push him back a bit... maybe decreasing his contrast will help some. -

Yeah, I've definitely given myself more of a challenge by leaving out his snout. Thanks for your input! I'll try pushing his design a bit more. -

@miranda-hoover This is so beautiful! Such a great composition. I do have a few suggestions:
- I agree that the alligator can be pushed back a little to include the snout. Currently, Clyde reads as being zoomed up in the foreground as opposed to a large creature directly under Bongo. So it seems unlikely that Clyde would be able to see Bongo in his field of vision. If he is pushed back, it would look more possible.
- Bongo's legs could be made a little thinner. They look a tad muscular for his tiny body.
- I'd also try drawing Bongo's other arm probably reaching out to the tip of the hook.
- I think the main thing you need to change in the monkey's face is the nose. Don't color in the nose dark because then it looks like a dog's nose. Just leave it the same color as the skin and draw in the nostrils.
This is really cool. I love how you've shown the depth with the trees!

I love the style! Super cute characters and composition. I think people have already mentioned the only thing I would change, which is to maybe show a bit of Clyde's snout to show that he's an alligator, but I also like just the eyes peeking in so I'm torn. Definitely worth trying to see how it looks though. A TINY bit more of a snout would probably keep that balance

@miranda-hoover Really nice piece!! The thing that keeps catching my eye is that the monkey's foot is a human foot..I don't know why this keeps grabbing my attention - he does not need to be accurate ...but i wish he had a more thumb like big toe

its cute. i would maybe put it so that the crocs eyes are above water? just my thoughts that it would look nicer that way.

@miranda-hoover This already looks gorgeous and quite finished. Doing a paper-cut style will bring it to another level. The fish hook is something I sensed, but only got when I read your question (I think:). Composition is solid and elegant. Design of the the alligator--maybe add some details to ensure it's truly an alligator and not a hippo, for example.

Here is the updated version! I might still make some tweaks here and there, so any feedback is appreciated!
I changed Bongo's head to a style I prefer (but if the previous head fits the overall style better please let me know). I tried removing the color from his nose, but with the new head he was getting dangerously close to Curious George, so I just made his nose less dark. I also shrank his legs a little and added his second a hand below the branch.
Instead of drawing more of Clyde, I slightly adjusted his design and cropped more of him out of the whole picture. I'm hoping this way he looks less like a frog or a hippo specifically, and more like a suggestion of an alligator. I also brought down his contrast a bit and added some atmosphere to the scene. Did his help to push him back under Bongo? Or is he still up against the camera?
This is my first time attempting atmosphere, so please let me know if I did something horribly wrong, haha. Not sure if it will work with the cut-out style that I'm going to attempt, but I'll give it a shot.
@Melanie-Ortins Thank you! I also like the eyes peeking in, haha. It was a bit of a challenge to get the snout to translate well with a straight-on shot in this style, so I'm hoping the new version solved some of the problems with his design. But looking at it now, I might still be able to give him a little bit of a snout

@Kevin-Longueil Thanks! Oh, you make a great point! I guess I was so focused on drawing a good foot that I didn't even think of drawing the correct foot, haha. I didn't even notice till you mentioned something. I'll play with it and see if I can draw a more representative foot.
@MirkaH Thanks! I tried putting him a bit above water, but I think he was conflicting a bit too much with the trees. Hopefully, this version fixed some of his design issues.

@miranda-hoover The alligator is more pushed back under Bongo now. And I prefer this revised angle of Bongo's head. It somehow makes him feel more alive or active.
One small thing: Now that you've shifted his body a bit to the left (his belly button and face), I wonder if it would make sense to shift his dangling leg also to the left (knee facing more left, showing a big more rear end so we can almost see where the tail comes out but not quite).
For the final, will you be taking a photo of the paper-cut illustration, or scanning? If a photo, you might burn a candle or incense and get some "mist" into the image. Or you can certainly add this effect in Photoshop:)

Oh, I didn't think about adjusting the legs too--thanks for mentioning that. I'll try shifting the legs a bit.
I'll be attempting the cut-out effect in Procreate, so the piece will be all digital. It would be really cool to have it physically cut out of paper, but I don't think I'll have the time or resources for that this month. That is a really cool idea, though!

Loving it - yes, Bong's branch is immediately apparent as a fish hook.

I love the composition of this piece. Normally, I would avoid of having the main character in the middle of the canvas. But I think for this piece it feels right. My only comments is the value structure. I would try to keep the most contrast on the main subject - in this case, the monkey, if I understood the concept correct. Right now the value of the money is quite light compared to the background. I would try to have much darker value on the money to add more contrast.

Your composition is really nice. I think you can tweak the monkey's feet just a bit. They look too human. Monkey and ape feet are more like elongated hands with a short opposable thumb that sticks out to the side some.
