Who is going to LightBox Expo?
-
@Nyrryl-Cadiz Oh, my ! Really? I,very read in the forum about this stupidity. This Dunn man is so overreacting . I really can't believe this is happening about an educational book. I don't know Dunn but I didn't expect this from Bobby Chiu. So confused.
-
@Dima-Eichhorn it's a whole mess
-
@Norman-Morana Yes, I follow so many great artists from Germany and they were attending last year. But for me at this point is really not a good investment to fly overseas. So , here i am , happy that it is online.
-
@Nyrryl-Cadiz I've just was in twitter. I can't believe that there is so much hate towards Jake . And even coming with racist arguments. It is awful. Oh, my god, it is just awful.
-
@Dima-Eichhorn it's really discouraging

@Dima-Eichhorn so I think lightbox must have been inundated with messages and massive pressure from people. They posted a tweet saying something along the lines of “ thank you for the messages, lightbox is parting ways with Jake Parker/inktober/svs learn.” This was in the first day or so. I posted a reply saying that the correct thing to do would be to wait for a response from Jake before assigning guilt and cutting ties as they were hearing only one side. I went back a day or so later and the tweet had been removed. So I wonder if he had a change of heart. The svs logo being on the site is a good sign. I can understand that he was probably under incredible pressure and I hope he did realize that it might have been jumping the gun. I saw that Tom Bancroft, who is part of lightbox expo has spoken out in support of Jake, and peter han said everyone should calm down lol, and not assign guilt and gather info as it comes ( he has a good video on his Instagram). I’m interested in doing lightbox too, and I might, Still deciding! I’m also pretty busy at the moment! I also just joined Loish’s patreon so there’s a lot of stuff for me to comb through there, so maybe I have enough to do haha. Just wish I knew where lightbox stands that’s all. The fact that they removed the tweet is good. Too bad everyone has to get caught up in this drama!
I say go and do lightbox and have a great time! -
I will be taking part as much as I can with my 6 year old running around the house all weekend
There are SO MANY good panels going on every hour, i’m having a hard time narrowing down the ones I want to attend! I’m looking forward to soaking up all the knowledge
-
@Coley Thanks a lot for the answer. Past two hours I read about this and it is awful. I really hope Jake is ok. About the logo - it is not there anymore. I hope more and more people come and support Jake because he deserves it. He doesn't deserve this hate.
-
@Dima-Eichhorn I’m glad you brought this up and shared some of the topics because I didn’t know what LightBox had to offer so hadn’t been paying proper attention to the other mentions I was seeing! I just registered
Although, looking at the schedule I feel a little bit disadvantaged having to wake up at 2am to participate
and I’m conflicted trying to choose which events to attend when so many run concurrently!
-
@Dima-Eichhorn yes, I agree, the hate is extremely upsetting! People are not just assuming guilt, they’re being incredibly hateful. I didn’t read much of it because it makes me lose faith in people
-
Is there any way to get info on the event before you pay? I know I could just throw a dollar at it but I'd at least like to see the lineup first.
-
@StudioLooong Check out Bobby Chiu’s YouTube he gives a rundown of the lineup, goodie bag and a sneak peek at the schedule.
-
@Coley you are right. I've already lost it.
-
@Dima-Eichhorn take a break from it. I think it’s good to be aware of but not dwell in! We can’t change anything by being upset. I’m just trying to maintain composure in any of my interactions on the matter and support others who are speaking reasonably on the matter. But it definitely is upsetting

Hey Guys!
I just tried to get into the first Lightbox session and it said that Zoom had already hit its 300 person capacity... does anyone know if that's how all the sessions will be run? It would be a bummer not to get to see any of them.
Thanks!!
-
@StudioLooong Hello! I don't think Bobby Chiu succeeded in giving a good glimpse of what was this event about
I watched the vlog of the 2019 edition by erikathegoober and it gave me far better insight. Check it out on Youtube!Edit : yes, for the 2020 agenda, it seems you need to register (i e to pay) before accessing any information. The reasonning behind, is that the agenda is automatically made available on your time zone.
Personnally I would had rather have the agenda and do a little math to adjust the time to my time zone.
Also, it is likely to be night sessions for those in Europe. I din't see any mention of possible replay for those who register.
I have a big question mark on this edition, being only the second and the first online.
Besides I didn't see many comments on the 1st edition outside the video promotions from Bobby Chiu and his crew. I'll check if there is a thread on the forum!

@Dima-Eichhorn said in Who is going to LightBox Expo?:
@Blitz55 I am really grateful to corona about this.
I couldn't imagine that I am attending it ever, since I live in Europe.
The online version is really well done so far. I'm hoping that perhaps they continue this along side the event itself for those who can't make the trip.

@Annaaronson I just watched a kitbash3D VR demo that was hosted on twitch. So there's probably multi-broadcasts.
-
@Annaaronson Hi! The Zoom sessions have different caps, 100-500 people depending on the session. I just keep trying and eventually get in when someone jumps out. Also, all of the Zoom sessions I’ve been attending are being recorded so they will likely be offered again somewhere else (not sure where yet, probably either via Bobby Chiu or the featured artist’s own website). I’ll let you know here if I find out
-
Does anyone know if the sessions are recorded, so I can watch later with paying for $1? I am home with a 3 years old, and very stressful deadlines for projects. Attending live events is likely not possible for me at this moment, but it seems there are some amazing stuff going on. I am especailly interested in Noah Klocek's presentation on picture book illustration, and paitning with pastels.
