@Braden-Hallett Hi, Braden. I love this picture. I definitely think the silhouette/pose is clear. For me, looking in my phone so size might be the issue, it’s just hard to quickly differentiate the pose from the background because of the darkness of the clothes against the darkness of the background behind him.
I like the pop of light on the sail to draw the eye to your hero, it just then takes me a second to make out the great pose.
And the dragon is very easy to make out. Great job!

@Braden-Hallett So lovely!! I think I'd make the sail in general a bit lighter. The kid's hair and sail are very similar tone right now.

@Braden-Hallett I LOVE THIS! Everything reads pretty clear to me (I'm viewing it on a large desktop monitor). Getting nit-picky, I noticed a tangent where the bottom of the sail lines up with his belt.

@Braden-Hallett ok crazy-talk ahead because it might be my favorite of everything you've done, but I feel like it sets this animation in motion in my head that gave me trouble reading it as a still image. My eyes started with the monster and traveled down to the kid's reaction, and had a bit more trouble than others reading it because I expected him to be looking at the monster too, like me. That moment of the monster rising up is such a good one! Then I thought he was throwing something because he had already had the reaction i did and was going to be doing something to bridge the distance. Is this the pose he would have as the monster is inches from him, flailing a bit? In other words, the boy feels a few steps forward in the movie you're about to make from this...

@Braden-Hallett great composition! The sword and dragon read really clear, and you've masterfully led the eye up to the dragon. For me, the dragon is the focal point, which is weird because your one light source is centered around the kid. But the kid is getting lost for me because he's standing in front of those strong stripes so he's not as clearly silhouetted.
And as others have said, there are tangent issues, which no doubt you'll fix: the stripe leading right into the dragon's foreleg, the boy's belt lining up with the bottom of the sail, the mast ending right at the dragon's scales.
One more thing that is not super clear to me: is the light source the sword? Where is the light coming from?
These are all really nitpicky things, but you did ask for them!
Overall, this is SUCH a great concept and composition. Really hoping that you'll share the final piece with us. Can't wait to see it!illustrator - author - smiley person

ahhh I get what you're sayin! The prompt is 'duel to the death' so I liked the idea of the little guy challenging this huuuuuuge monster

@Braden-Hallett it's good to know the story or prompt behind an illustration! Thanks for sharing, gives so much more context.
In that case, with the prompt in mind, it does raise a question: who is going to be the one who comes out of this battle?
Right now, it looks like the little guy is going to lose. His eyes are closed and the way he's holding onto the rope and posed, it looks like he's about to teeter over the edge into the water. It feels like either the sea or the monster is going to get him.
Not sure if this is what you're going for or hoping to convey ... hope you find this feedback helpful.

'Tis the sword! I think it reads better now. I may add some adjustment layers to make it pop a bit more tomorrow
