Hey guys! I have been recently inspired by an artist named Pascal Campion. His family pieces make me so happy, and I want to incorporate his entirely relatable pieces into my art. I do love his brush work, but I don't think my skills are quite there yet.
Here is my new piece I am working on. I haven't looked for critique before finishing my work. I know I know thats crazy, but I am hoping for your honest opinion. Values, perspective, whatever you guys feel you can give me, THANK YOU!Don't-Peek.jpg

Thanks for sharing your work - it can be exciting and nerve wracking to ask for a critique. 🙂 I think the vibe you mentioned in the work of Pascal Campion is coming through in your drawing, but not in the colors. The drawing is brilliant - sweet and relatable. Hope that's helpful! Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Edit: I'm realizing this may be a value study! If that's the case, I'd recommend pushing your lightest values even more, especially where light is shining on their faces. The light would be stronger on their bodies than where it is shining on the back wall. Just my perspective though. Great piece!

Second Edit: Just noticed the lamp in front - maybe check out a reference photo for the shadow that is cast by that kind of lamp.

        🙂

@KathrynAdebayo lol it's all good, you got there in the end lol 😆. How would you suggest pushing those highlights? White with an overlay filter? Either way I feel your advice has merit I just wish I knew how. Btw I don't mind critiques as long as they are constructive. But thank you for your thoughtfullness.

@Kori-Jensen Hi Kori! Thanks for your understanding :), I don't want to be that person who critiques something not intended to be critiqued... like colors in a value study, haha. I'd be interested to hear other people's expertise when it comes to bringing out highlights easily, since I don't know the best way to do it.

                Hi @Kori-Jensen, super fun piece!

Here’s what I think is happening: big brother is online playing a game or something and his two younger twin brothers surprise attacked him to take over the PC.

Rather than list out my thoughts, I just did a quick draw over to give you something to consider. My notes are also shown for your convenience.

Remember, I’m also a student so feel free to ignore anything you feel doesn’t resonate with you.

Can’t wait to see the finished piece!
