Post your plans for Inktober 2021

Inktober is about to begin and we want to know what your plans are! For those of you working on the Inktober Bootcamp, or just planning to participate in the challenge, share your plan for the challenge on this post. Here are three areas that you will want to include in your plan:

Goal for Inktober (why you are doing it and what you hope to accomplish)
When you will be making time to complete your drawings
The parameters for your drawings (any rules you are giving yourself)

There will also be a special Jump session this Friday to allow everyone to work on their first Inktober drawings together. We would love to have all of you there to join the fun!

I originally wasn’t planning on it because of health and discouragement. But thankfully my medication is working now and my health is on the mend, so let’s see how this goes!

My plan is to develop images for a children’s book dummy I’m working on called Abby’s Aquarium Adventure. I’ll work on the main character (Abby) and then some drawings of the animals she sees in the aquarium.
I’m keeping it SUPER simple this year, so I’m hoping to make time after work each day, in the evening.
I’ll only be working on b&w (most years I also use colored ink), small spot illustrations of the animals with a little bit of environment around them, and work on texturing use hatching, stippling, etc.

My goal for Inktober 2021 is to jump right in and do all 31 days for the first time! I am lucky to have a pretty relaxed schedule this month, so finally have the time to dedicate to this challenge.
I have decided to tie the prompts into a book I am working on. It is a middle grade novel titled "Captain Jack and the Frost Pirates". I am in the middle of writing this novel, and am having some trouble writing the Pirates because the characters are not really fleshed out in my mind yet. I have developed character sheets of the three main pirates for the SVS Critique Arena contest this month, and intend to draw these characters, and their peg-leg penguin, for all 31 days. I hope that by the end of the month I will know the characters a lot better and it will help me write them.
I have set myself up a schedule to complete the drawing each day. I plan to sketch in the afternoon/evening for the drawing I will be inking and posting the following day. I find I need to complete the sketch, then walk away from it for a while so when I return to it I can see if anything is wonky. I like to sit down and do the final linework while I have my coffee in the morning.
I have set up the following rules for myself:

Draw the given prompts. I don't have to do them in order, but I can only do the prompts on the official list. This keeps me from being lazy about it and just drawing something easy!
Every drawing has to use the same set of characters/ same story. All of the characters don't need to be in each illustration.
No combining prompts. One drawing for each prompt.
Post every day... even if what I made wasn't my favorite.

I want to get back into drawing and I hope to make a small art zine with 31 drawings

When you will be making time to complete your drawings
I plan to dedicate 8PM-12MN to draw, granted that no sideline lands on my lap

The parameters for your drawings (any rules you are giving yourself)
Must use black and white only
Use different camera angles and perspectives
Put characters in backgrounds

I'm also going to incorporate the prompt list to the text but it's not a must
I have a clear idea on how I want the story to go. The conclusion doesn't make any sense but it'll be something fun to draw.

I was looking forward to doing inktober and wanted to try making 31 comic book like ‘frames’ in which a story was told using the prompt. For example for ‘crunch’ I was planning to do a side view of a cyclist looking down on his phone, while in the background you could see the lorry driving up.
Used a great part of september brainstorming the prompts, made almost 31 small scale drawings (and even more miniatures to try different angles etc.).

Then I started thinking “But what will I get from this years inktober?” It’ll cost me a lot of time which I might be better off spending on the foundations courses or trying to further myself in illustrating a short story (for that ambition of one day creating a comic book..). And time-wise I just know I won’t be able to spend the amount of time I want on each illustration and create a number of drawings which could be better with just a bit more time and attention.
At the same time I really enjoy the creative process of inktober and the thrill of creating stuff then seeing how others tackled the prompt.

As a in between solution I opted to only do the four thursday prompts to coincide with Inktober52.

The hard thing though is that with Inktober I have a physical list and goal to work towards which really gets me in the focus mode (31 drawing, in ink done in october and posted on IG). And I know from previous editions this really works for me. And I know the generic ideals of ‘doing more SVScourses’, ‘participate in the monthly challenge’,’illustrate a fable’, ‘do the inktober52 drawings’ lack in this aspect and I find I miss the drive (?) to tackle these.

My goal for Inktober this year is to improve on my children-drawing skills and story-telling skills. I can draw the heck out of people if you want realism but stylized people not so much. I can draw a good environment, too, but I always get dinged on my storytelling. So those two things are what I want to work on. Hopefully, by the end, I will have a look that I like and works for me and will be able to tell a story with a spot illustration. I will be working on these drawings at lunch probably. I plan on penciling in a bunch of them ahead of time.
Here are the rules I am setting for myself:

The pictures should be a spot illustration (no detailed backgrounds)
I am using ink and ink wash (well digital versions, anyway)
I am doing these as an alphabet primer with a cute poem for each day. The prompt is embedded in the poem.
All the pics are of kids, no animals, adults, etc. (unless they pertain to the verse)

Also, I am making my students do inktober, too. They have to use all 31 prompts in a cohesive 11 x 14 ink drawing. Their ideas are fantastic. I hope to share some on my Instagram as we go along.

I plan on making designs for my notecards. There will is a pirate collection, light house collection, and maybe a beach quote collection. I need work for the wholesale show in myrtle beach at the end of November. Yay!

I plan on inking and using watercolors. I plan on inking first and then painting.

And I'm going to create the work first thing in the morning after I drop off the kids.

Can't wait to get started. Hopefully it will get me out of the treaters funk. I've just been a little tired these days. Sometimes having a new project creates energy. Gives you those endorfines you need to do the rest of your to do list!

Hi! For the past few years I had a great time creating an Inktober story around the prompts, hoever, this takes a lot of time and this year there are too many things happening ithat demand my time… still, I want to try a simpler version, using my mandatory daily pig drawing session, but I will try to take it easy and give myself some slack if I don’t manage to keep up. Also I am still debating if I will be posting this one on Instagram…
Here is my starting day, featuring my character Porchi!

After work, after diner, after helping daughter with homework, but before going to sleep. Hopefully weekends will give me a chance to catch-up or get ahead.

Well, I had planned to participate. My idea was to take the opportunity to improve the way I draw elements in my maps by doing some small ink illustrations focusing on different map elements. This way I would be only focusing on how I draw the elements, not on an entire map.

I don't know if I will have the time to do a drawing per day though. But I think that I will at least start, since it begins on a Friday, and see how it goes. I would have to make the drawings at night, so let's see if I'm not too tired most of the the days.

My goal for Inktober is to practice illustrating. I am an artist, but have mainly done drawings/paintings of real life scenes and less storytelling.
I am a high school art teacher, and have been given an art 1 level class this year for the first time. Since it is only one class, I am making that my/our time for Inktober.
My parameters are to make each drawing something personal.
Can't wait to see everyone's artwork

Hey Gang, here is my plan for Inktober this year.

My goal this year is to finish rounding out a couple gaps in my portfolio. I want to make some of these Inktober pieces into spot and vignette illustrations, along with some sequential illustrations.
I'm squeezing time in when ever I can. I'll work a bit in the morning before work, do some prep during lunch, and get into some inking in the evenings.
I don't think I so much as have rules for myself this year. I do want to hit all 31 days, but it that means posting a piece I don't think is strong enough, I won't do it. A fun idea I do have, would be to make a couple of these digitally with some custom brushes I made using textures from last years Inktober.

Day one and the prep leading up to it has been fun! Excited to see what people post!
