@ArtistErin @Jeremy-Ross I've had an art account for my social media on several different platforms over the last decade or so.

Recently I stopped using them for a few months because they were making me feel frustrated and demotivated with my art, and then tentatively poked my toes back into them a few weeks ago with the caveat that they are NOT for marketing, they are just for sharing what I'm doing with my art.

Chasing the respective algorithms and trying to "do everything right" (post consistently! go live three times a day! alternate between reels and carousels! wait to respond to comments until you post your next piece of content to encourage people to engage with your newest post when they see your comment!) will drive you crazy.

I worked for a social media marketing company for a while, and I knew how to do everything "right," but it made me not want to make art. I'd rather make art! They can be great platforms, just tread carefully and if you start feeling the urge to "optimize for the algorithm" rather than "create good art," take a break for a month and come back when that itch goes away!

Hey Gang, here is my plan for Inktober this year.

My goal this year is to finish rounding out a couple gaps in my portfolio. I want to make some of these Inktober pieces into spot and vignette illustrations, along with some sequential illustrations.

I'm squeezing time in when ever I can. I'll work a bit in the morning before work, do some prep during lunch, and get into some inking in the evenings.

I don't think I so much as have rules for myself this year. I do want to hit all 31 days, but it that means posting a piece I don't think is strong enough, I won't do it. A fun idea I do have, would be to make a couple of these digitally with some custom brushes I made using textures from last years Inktober.

Day one and the prep leading up to it has been fun! Excited to see what people post!

While going through Inktober memories, I thought that why not share something with you, though it's too late! It's really a very simple art from my Inktober collection, made with Bianyo Watercolor Marker set. 148664298_127266332609699_5026506258751481220_n-2.jpg

@jaepereira Rose City Con is the Portland Con in September, I know Portland has a few but it's the one I felt would give me enough time to figure out what to do before going. I'll be heading up there next weekend to the Portland Wizard Con and kind of "take notes" on booth setups and stuff like that. Awesome you have a local shop to help you out with your prints! I live in a fairly small town so all the googling I did to find a place like that failed me, most places only did printing on products (t-shirts, cups, etc) Or they didn't have the type of printing available that I have been looking for. So I decided I should just get my own printer.

Thank you for the numbers and other info too! I think that will help give me an idea of how much I should take. I also thought about maybe taking my printer and wife's laptop with me and I could print extras if I needed from the hotel.. But I don't think I would run into that issue just yet!

@Pam-Boutilier Ah! I ordered a packet from MOAB papers that came with 26 different types of paper and there is some stuff similar to that, it looks like amazing paper but it's at a quality that I think I would save for some art I did that I felt was just absolutely amazing. Plus like you said the price range is kind of high so for now I am sticking with some more affordable options. I brought some tests prints into my work to see what some other people who aren't my wife thought and so far everyone seems to like the quality so maybe I am just judging them too harshly.

Thanks, Nate (@Naters-Calderone) and Lynn (@Lynn-Larson)!
I am using quite cheap pens. In this I used two kinds: a Stabilo Greenpoint with 0.8 mm tip and a Schneider Topliner 967 with 0.4 mm tip. I am not sure how known they are outside Germany.

How nice to ask for a name!? ๐Ÿ™‚ I like if the name of a character is somehow contrary to his/her personality to cause a kind of surprize for the reader, when the characters behavior does not really match the expectations. I am not an expert and it would be interesting to hear what Lee (@Lee-White) is saying about this.
For German ears this girl looks like a Gertie, which sounds very diffident and well-behaved. If you prefer to go for a more cheeky name then I would propose a boyish name, like Kim. I don't know why but I find also a french name pretty good for her like Gabrielle. These are my proposals :-). What do you think?
