I fleshed out one idea. Whatcha think? How could I make this better without giving too much away or being too obvious. I like the idea that the reader doesn’t know exactly what happened but it was epic!

@chrisaakins nice concept. One thing you might want to consider: the text says that Reilly is proud. Here, he reads shocked/surprised. Maybe a hint of a smile or full-on smile will help convey his pride and that whatever he made was EPIC...

@melissa_bailey I originally drew a big ole grin but it didn't capture the "Whoa!" I was going for. I will play around with it a bit.

I feel like the whole illustration looks messy. And I am just not as happy with it as my original sketch. Grrr. I hate when that happens.

@chrisaakins that is frustrating when that happens, I still totally love this concept, (lightbulb!)I just had a thought, what if whatever he made busted through the garage door like a Wiley coyote cutout? And have Riley poking out out of the silhouette? I’d play around with it some more until you dig it again. Good luck! And can’t wait to see where it goes!

Looks very nice. I like the blueprint on the back wall.

Here’s another version. Trying different line work. I may need to start over…

@chrisaakins nice! With the garage being lighter, there is more contrast, which works to emphasize the crater and smoke. Riley's expression better communicates "that was EPIC!"

One thing you may want to reconsider is the garage door--being so dark it really draws the eye off the page. Could it be removed? Or lightened?

Wow you are really ahead of the game here, cool! I love this idea (my first thought when I saw the prompt was EXPLOSIONS!!! 💥🤣)

To add to the above the garage does seem to be in quite good condition after such an ‘epic’ event. The doorframe has no bends or dents or damage apart from the fire. From the angle that Riley is looking, the item looks as it would have gone up in the air from the scorched patch like ⬆️ or ↖️, would it have smashed through the top of the door rather than going out horizontally and then up in a ‘L’ shaped path like ⬅️ then ⬆️. Would a couple of the wooden panels on the front have some damage such as being a bit peeled open (like the top of a sardine tin) or have something wedged through it from the blast, as if it’s come flying from the inside and got stuck half way through? Although it’s a bit of a fine line between a comedy explosion and a catastrophic event, I know I would take it waaaaaaay too far so I would take these suggestions with a pinch of salt! 😂

                    Loving it so far 👍
