Here's some rough sketches for my August Critique Arena submission, for "Design a Superhero: Draw a character sheet of your original human superhero". I would be super appreciative of feedback, particularly while still in this 'rough' stage! Happy to hear any feedback, but in particular, I'm wondering:

    • Do her powers make sense to you?
    • Do you think the trampoline scene is "too much" for a character sheet?
--My thinking was to show her using her powers for heroism, as opposed to just showing that she has powers. But character design can indicate heroic traits too... so I wonder if I'm overdoing it (especially with a whole secondary character!)
    • Does she seem unique, appealing, interesting, fun? I worry that she seems a bit plain.

    And finally, more generally:

    • How are ya'll interpreting "character sheet"? I feel like it could go a more formal way, with character turn-arounds (front, 3/4, side, back views), or more playful by showing various action poses and annotating important features. There's no call out to do a turn-around in the description, but it does say "character sheet", which is a bit different for Critique Arena than the usual "tell a story".

@Rebecca-Jensen in past character design prompts they asked for 3/4 front and 3/4 back, running/jumping, sitting, and a close up. So that’s what I did for mine. I imagine once the post the current prompt on the website it will give specific instructions.

The trampoline might be too much and I'm not quite sure what the other poses are showing. I'm not participating this month but this seems like a really tough prompt. Personally I wouldn't worry about conveying the characters superpowers, just make them look like an amazing and fun superhero. I say just go all in on the design and don't worry about what the powers are so much

@Rebecca-Jensen the requirements are up on the critique arena website now if I remember correctly it’s 3/4 neutral front 3/4 neutral back, running/walking, a close up and a superhero pose.

So cool! So she's like the Green Lantern with the ability to materialise any object she can think of? That would make for an interesting character sheet!

I was thinking the same as you, but thankfully the Critique Arena promt says we can include an "action" pose, so it won't just a hero standing there doing nothing. I'm not sure if you'll have the space to add additional characters though, so yeah the trampoline might be too much.
