      Hi SVSer,

Need your help to see if my concept is coming through. I am supposed to design a single caterpillar character, but with 4 different sets attributes that represent a personality trait.

Can you guess what are the traits depicted by each of the caterpillar without further text info? Thanks so much!

Ugh sorry I couldn't add numbering to the picture on my phone. Let's do it in this order.

@ArtMelC You have a good start here, but #1 and #4 need a little work.

For #1, you need to determine what kind of personality your super hero has. Is he honest, heroic, kind? Or is he using the suit to hide a more fearful personality. Maybe he has the powers, but is really afraid of confrontation. The pose he is in is fairly neutral. Nothing shows who he is.

For #4, I don't understand the concept for that one.

#2 and #3 are ok, but both could be clearer as to what is actually happening (what specific personality trait(s) are you trying to show?)

        Hope that helps!

@tom-barrett Sorry I wasn't being clear with my request! I am hoping I could get some people here to guess what personality trait each of the caterpillar represents. So I can compare with my actual brief and see how far off base I am.

It is meant to be a mascot/ icon thing, not depiction of a specific story hence the lack of details in what exactly the caterpillar is doing.

Imagine this character popping up at the end of your online personality quiz, when you get your result. That is the use case I am thinking of.

              @ArtMelC Here are my guesses:

              1. Hero or helper, who wants to save the day or fix other people’s problems

              2 Fun-loving, carefree, life-of-the-party type

3 Nurturer/empath who connects well with others

              4 I have no idea??

@ArtMelC ok, I see. If that is the case, then I can see how you would use these, and I agree with @Asyas_illos guesses, though #4 could use a tad more clarity. : )

I tried to go with one or two words for each image:
                    1 confident
                    2 relaxed (partying)
                    3 loving mother
4 focused (hearing something, getting a message to its antenna)

Thank you everyone who guessed and provided feedback! These are the answers:

                      1. Confident
                      2. Happy
                      3. Affectionate
                      4. Tenacious (being in control and focused towards one's goal)

I think 4 is certainly the most difficult for me and I'll go and work on that more. This is an actual project and unfortunately I can't share much more (I got permission to get feedback on character design and readability on this forum in general terms) but it is an incredibly exciting thing to work on.

I took Anna Daviscourt's class on appealing character design on SVS and tried to apply all the exercises and principles as I am creating these icons. If you haven't I strongly suggest you check it out bcos it's a very helpful and fun class. Cheers!

@ArtMelC These are fun! My guesses for character traits are as follows:

                        1. Brave
                        2. Relaxed
                        3. Kind
                        4. Cool

I think 1 and 4 were the hardest for me to guess.

@ArtMelC Congrats on the project! It came to mind to share... If these characters are being viewed one by one and it's important that each design reads as a caterpillar, you may want to consider keeping the full body in view for each image. For instance, the character in the car could be interpreted as an insect that is not a caterpillar. Good luck with everything!
