Anyone else feeling like the prompt for this month is super hard? ๐Ÿ•

I spent two whole weeks just brainstorming, without actually drawing a single line ๐Ÿ˜… Finally, yesterday I had a chance to do some sketching and these are the two concepts I'm working on right now.
And here's the question - are they clear enough?

      Idea #1
Giant cat has injured their paws, so it looked liked that was the end of the road for them and their companion. But the companion found a solution and created a set of wings for Giant cat ๐Ÿ™‚

      Idea #2
Hedgehog's favourite rabbit toy got broken and he's very sad because of it. Bear saw what happened and is coming to help - with scissors and needles. It looks like this might be a beginning of new friendship for them. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Would you do something differently?
      Are these stories interesting enough?

I plan on creating BG for idea #1, where I might show some notes and craft supplies maybe?

Any comments are welcome, really. I never thought I might be struggling so much with an assignment, but I am... ๐Ÿง

@mag I agree. It has been harder. I have thought of a lot of ideas, but most of them are hard to convey in just one illustration.
Both of your images are lovely and the concepts are great. I think they go well with the prompt. Like you said, definitely put some craft supplies and notes in the background for number one illustration to show that the wings are new.

I agree with @Kim-Rosenlof that if you go with concept #1 definitely make it clear the wings are new, with craft supplies and evidence of that, and the wings are maybe cloth and construction paper or something like that?

I love both concepts thought, so cute!!! Can't wait to see how you move forward ๐Ÿ™‚

@mag Both are really good but I absolutely love your first option with the flying cat. Once you refine the details I think it'll read really clearly. The design is super cute too.

@Jeremy-Ross Thank you! It's really cool to hear what everyone's favourites are. ๐Ÿ™‚

@Chantal-Goetheer Thanks! โค๏ธ It's maybe more fit within the picture book world too?

@Kim-Rosenlof Thank you โค๏ธ That's exactly what I've been struggling with too! I can see a story revolving around this topic, but to do it all in one image only is a real pickle! I'm so curious what everyone is going to come up with, it's always so inspiring, because every artists bring something new and fresh ๐Ÿ˜‹

@AngelinaKizz Thank you so much! ๐Ÿ˜Š If I have enough time I think I might do both of them actually, as they are different from each other.

I'm curious, how many people do use these prompts to build up their portfolio too? ๐Ÿฅธ

                          @baileyvidler Thank you ๐Ÿฅฐ

I showed the second concept to my husband - and of course he had plenty of comments ๐Ÿ˜…
(Are your loved ones the toughest critiques of your work too?)

So I decided to redo Bear a little bit, as he was confused and thought Bear is Hedgehog's mother. The story I have in my head is that these two characters find a new friendship thanks to the broken toy, and it seams it's not coming out as clearly as I hoped.
So I changed the Bear to a Fox, with sharp teeth, visible eager to help with the mending of the broken toy.

What do you think about this change? Should I keep the previous version or is it better like this? concept03.jpg

@mag personally I liked bear better but they both work and this newer version of winged cat looks great too, clear story.

@mag my husband is wonderful. Heโ€™s not artistic, or creative, but he sure knows how to give me feedback. Heโ€™ll take his time to look at a piece and really break down all the things he thinks work, and donโ€™t work. Heโ€™ll look through my thumbnails or color pallettes, and heโ€™ll give me his perspective as if heโ€™s reading the book Iโ€™m illustrating. My harshest critic though, is my 8 year old. Sheโ€™s and artist through and through, and manโ€ฆ sheโ€™s gonna do big things one day. Sheโ€™ll flat out tell me โ€œI really donโ€™t want to hurt your feelings, so Iโ€™ll try to say it as nicely as I canโ€ฆ itโ€™s just that itโ€™s not very goodโ€ lmfao!

@AngelinaKizz Kids can be brutal! But I love the honesty. My mom is the worst to critique my work, because she always loves it and never thinks something might be off - which is not useful at all! But if I ever want a simple support, I know where to go ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@AngelinaKizz And your husband sounds wonderful, btw! I admire everyone who actually takes time and thinks about the art and the story, even if they are not an artist themselves.
