@Jeremy-Ross that’s awesome I’ve been searching other ways to market myself as well and this was something I was interested in so thanks!
-
@Jeremiahbrown hahaha!
-
@Jeremy-Ross do they give you specs? Like what your file sizes need to be and such?
-
Hey!
been a while since I posted anything new. This pencil illustration was subliminally inspired by the now old movie Epic by BlueSky. Inspired by the amazing William Joyce book the “Leaf men and the Brave Good Bugs” it was made during a bunch of meetings and after the kids are in bed Netflix and chill sessions. Please feel free to comment! I would love some critique.
-
@Asyas_illos The file needs to be png, jpg or tiff, 150 dpi recommended. They support 4 different repeats, so there is no requirement on the shape of the image. They have heaps of resources and how tos, so it’s easy to get started.
I’ve had a Spoonflower account for years, and my experience is that their design competitions (they run them weekly) is the absolute best way of getting sales on the platform. I came in at number 8 once a couple of years back, and that design vastly outperforms my other ones. The prompts are generally a lot of fun, so even if you don’t place high they’re fun to participate in.
-
@Jeremy-Ross they look awesome! Do you have different sizes? It seems quite big. My daughter now sleeps under a duvet instead of a sleeping bag for the first night and I need more covers. Love the rabbits and unicorns. Her bed is still a smaller sized bed.
-
Thanks @Mia-Clarke, you beat me to it!
Also, there’s a 40MB limit for each design, though most of mine are less than 5MB at 300 dpi.
I’ve been entering all the contests now that SVS has abandoned the Sweet 16 Critique Arena.

Hi @Chantal-Goetheer, Yes! The duvet is offered in Twin, Full/Queen and King/Cal King.
Please note, nothing is for sale at this time until proofs are approved, which should arrive next week. I certainly don’t want to sound spammy here, just sharing art with my SVS fam

My first piece for 2023 is in the bag! Time to get tacos to celebrate.
-
Gonna try the surface pattern thing this was just a trial illustration maybe I’ll end up using it at some point?…
-
Nice @Asyas_illos! You should do your fish one, too!
-
Finished another surface pattern design, “Bicycle Time Machine”.
-
@ajillustrates that is awesome! there's a story in that entire work of art and i'm sure it's just as amazing
-
@Jeremy-Ross so fun! I want to thank you for bringing light to this new aspect of illustration to me I knew it was there but I didn’t know how to get started. I’m looking forward to bringing some art to life!
-
Certainly @Asyas_illos!
I’m just getting started on this endeavor, and doing lots of research, etc., but one thing is for sure - I’m constantly creating.
I’m still pursuing children’s books, and still dream of walking into a bookstore and seeing my books displayed; however, I’m enjoying exploring other avenues of art, including surface pattern design.
Interesting thought: If a kid reads your book once or twice, it gets put on a shelf for years, or better yet - donated to a local thrift store. However, if a kid loves your bed spread and pillow designs, they enjoy your art everyday for years! Pretty cool, huh?
I’m thinking of writing a blog on my website to share my experiences.

i was diving into it and trying to make this live based illustrations....i don't know if i will stick to it, but i want to get used to it, so i can use it as a daily exercise.

@blackhound-rise Thanks! I wanted to capture a moment in time in this scene, but still keep it open for the viewer to decide what's happening - is this the moment right after being cursed by taking the gold, or is it right before being transformed back when the curse is lifted as the coins re-enter the chest?
