Recently finished up this character sheet to put in my portfolio. Do you feel the character looks consistent enough across all of these? I feel like there’s something amateurish /unfinished particularly about the two expressions. Am I overthinking that or is this all working?

@Griffin-McPherson I’d say he looks pretty consistent to me! You don’t have a back view, but maybe it’s intentional, I don’t know much about character sheets or “turn arounds” maybe it’s unnecessary. Great work love the character👍🏼

@Asyas_illos honestly I just wasn’t thinking about a back pose when making it and I don’t feel like it’s critical to have it in there so I’m not worried. I’ll just try to remember for future designs lol

@Griffin-McPherson The mustache seems smallest in the first pose.

@NessIllustration I like altering the size and shape of things like mustaches on characters to further emote their pose and expression but if it seems distractingly inconsistent that’s understandable. I wasn’t sure if it would be obvious enough

My daughter just said he looks like he should be a studio ghibli character.👍🏼

@Griffin-McPherson Your character design is charming and I really like his outfit, hat, mustache. (He does kinda look like a Ghibli character!) My favorite pose is the bottom left one because of the flow of the arms, shapes hands. You draw feet really well, they look great.

I'm looking at the two expressions and not sure if I see anything particularly unfinished about them. I do see that the eyes are slightly different shapes on each of them. Maybe you could tweak around with that, or maybe not, it's hard to say!

@Asyas_illos LOVE that. Maybe it’s the aviator outfit that does it since Miyazaki loves flying and aviator characters

@Elisabeth-Rae I know what you mean about the eyes. Hard to say to keep eyes and other features consistent with different expressions. I actually tried different eye shapes a few times so I just don’t know

@Asyas_illos She's right! I can totally see it. Giving me Porco Rosso vibes

Just a thought, but since he's holding aviator goggles in one of his poses, what would you think about having him wear them in the bottom middle pose?

@Griffin-McPherson He looks great to me! Easily recognizable as the same character throughout, and with a lot of fun variation in poses and facial expressions. I really like @ajillustrates 's idea to have him wear the aviation goggles in the bottom middle pose.
