I'm in my favorite unit of teaching in Digital Art 1, intro to digital painting. I can see sparks in the students eyes and know some are already loving it.
As a demo of all the cool stuff they can do with painting, I drew a vampire squid in Photoshop. As a side note, is anyone noticing Photoshop brushes are seeming more...clunky(?) than things like Procreate?

@ksfabian Ok I ordered a set of Holbein gouache, thank you soooo much for your feedback about the paper! I used to sell art supplies for a local retail art supply store and fell in love with receiving load every day, gouache was in the back of my mind since then. There are some pretty beautiful papers that I have heard scan better than others as far as color/texture...
I figured I am not waiting anymore to try it out!

Lately, I found myself doing traditional art very relaxing and I am painting almost every day!
It's partly because everybody still talks about AI art a lot. Personally, I think AI will never completely replace human-made art, simply because we love the process of creating so much and we are able to recognize the value it brings.
Today I started thinking about creating an actual full-spread illustration with complex composition traditionally. After I went through my craft supplies I realized I have no paper to draw on and spent an awful lot of money on paper, brushes, and paints...
But I do not regret it!

@mag I love this!! It's so adorable, I can't wait to see more of your traditional work. I couldn't agree more about making more things traditionally especially in the face of AI.

@mag this is so cute! I've been on a traditional kick lately too. It's been months since I drew anything on my iPad -- I've only been using it to do color studies. It's so fun to go back to your roots!

Hi @mag, looks amazing!! I recently started making a lot more traditional art, too. I find it significantly more relaxing than making art digitally for some reason.
Admittedly, I find myself double tapping the paper hoping to undo a mark!

@Kristen-Lango Ive been thinking about doing more traditional too lately and if I could replicate my digital style traditionally. I really want to try but my traditional supplies are all sorts of odds and ends left over from school and I'd have to also drop a lot of money on new supplies so I'm a little scared in case things were to turn out badly...

@Mimi-Simon yeah, supplies are expensive, but I look at it this way: it’s investing in my talent, and a whole lot less expensive (collectively) than going to a movie or out to eat every week. If I wouldn’t blink an eye spending discretionary income on entertainment, discretionary spending on art supplies is even better!
