Getting a late start - here are my first concepts for thursday - one of the things that popped into my head was a blinded knight/monk being led somewhere by people or birds - ( kingfishers..my favorite bird) the fortune is at the bottom of the first image πŸ™‚ any criticism is much appreciated - thanks! 0_1462307216662_Fortune.jpg

I like the thought! A lot of times it feels like we're blind looking for the way forward. Personally I like the second thumbnail (though you've rendered 1 and 3 more , I assume you like those better!) mostly because the ocean and a ship really feels like an unknown journey to me. πŸ˜ƒ

@Kevin-Longueil I agree, the second thumbnail is the most interesting one in that the narrative idea is clearer. A ship and ocean really suggest the idea of "next opportunity". What may be challenging to convey from that angle is that the monk is blind. Also, the idea of "guiding" is not that strong - maybe you could have one of the figures in front hold the monkΒ΄s hand, or the bird pulling some elements of his garments.
The sentence from the fortune cookies and the reference to birds makes me actually think of the scene in "The Secret Garden", where the robin shows the protagonist the door to the secret garden. Just a random thought, your idea works already! πŸ˜‰

@bharris @smceccarelli - Thank you Brittany and Simona! - very useful feedback - I was feeling 1 and 3 were possibly weak and decided to try some more thumbnails - 2 and 4 were the best of the second batch - I agree 2 is the most interesting but it is not successfully hitting the prompt - I will keep going with the thumbnails and see if I can find a better angle - Thank you both for taking the time - really helpful to me πŸ™‚

@Kevin-Longueil "Friends will guide you to your next opportunity" reads the fortune - wondering if "friends" and "guide" are coming across in this version (these are the same characters from a drawing i did a while back called Finn and the Fiddler) Thank you for your help πŸ™‚0_1462479087523_Attachment-1-41.jpeg

@Kevin-Longueil I think this works really well! Both the adventure aspect and the guiding are captured nicely, the composition is great (I love the way the trees are framing the subject, and the shape of the clouds in the background), values are supporting the focus point in an excellent way.

I agree with @smceccarelli ...I like your previous thumbs and overall agree with previous comments.. I really like the idea of using a ship/voyage to convey opportunity. To me this last thumb is the strongest, it really expresses the quote well and it's got lovely linework already πŸ™‚

@Kevin-Longueil Thank you! One day I will write that book - but it will be a young adults book, and I do not trust my writing skills so far at the moment - better stick with drawing πŸ˜‰

Just started on the figures and the boat - still very sketchy - shrunk the boat down quite a bit which seems to give it a lonelier feeling - not sure if i like it better or not with the smaller boat - might go back to original size..... any opinions? Thanks again πŸ™‚0_1463382911662_Attachment-1-47.jpeg
