Hi, I'm Holley Williamson and I'm kind of nervous about just introducing myself. I don't know why. I really like to take it all in first I guess. This place is amazing. The classes are so eye opening. I have a BA in Art, not a BFA because I did not emphasize in anything because I started having kids and I just wanted to graduate. But I missed out on so many classes. I would have liked to emphasize in Illustration, but only took a few classes specific to illustration. They told me I wouldn't graduate with a good portfolio and I didn't. I always felt like drawing from real life or photographs was fairly easy, but drawing from my head was so hard. These classes are bridging that gap and I'm so amazed! I'm so excited to understand why a painting is bothering me. I hate to finish something and feel so dissatisfied and not know why.
Anyway I have 5 kids, ranging from 13 to 6 months old. I love being a mom, but if I don't get a little art in each day, or at least a couple times a week I start to go crazy. I'm a stay at home mom, would love to be a work at mom doing art. I love children's books. Some art that I see is so beautiful it almost hurts, I want to be able to create art like that.

Hi Holley, and welcome! Yes, this is one of the best online resources on art in general and definitely the best on children's book illustration - and the forum is awesome!
And your Wizard of Oz piece was really lovely by the way! Do you work in pastel? Looking forward to see more of your work! -

Hello, Holley!! Glad You decided to join us here. This forum is great, and everyone is eager to help everyone else out.
I am also a stay at home parent, but od just a three year old boy (but he is like three kids rolled up in one). I started a thread awhile back about pursuing this dream while being a parent and all of the replies were incredible. For some reason I can't paste a link from my ipad, but if you are interested just go look at my posting history.

Welcome! You'll love it here - everyone is really helpful and supportive. And there's more art than you can shake a stick at :). I saw someone said you do pastel? I'm really looking forward to seeing your work - I'm a fellow pastelist. And I'm also a mom to a gaggle of kids - but mine are furry and have tails :).
