      hey guys,

It's my turn to do a 3rd Thursday topic. I was brainstorming some ideas and I thought I'd ask you guys what you would like to see. Go ahead and list anything that you would find interesting. I'd love to hear what you think.

      Thanks,
      Lee

Some topics I've been thinking about:

        Finding your "Style"

        Interview with different Artists

        Demos/Draw Overs

Real job breakdowns (how we got the job, sketches, revisions, and technique for final paint)

I like the Finding your Style idea and also would be really cool to see the Real Job Breakdowns from start to finish.

I like all the topics you listed
I would love a little art history of the masters and their technique and how to take what they know/learned and apply it to our work 🙂

@lmrush that's a tricky one. It would have to be broad enough to apply to a lot of our students AND we would have to know what the heck we are talking about. I know some general techniques the masters used, but not enough to confidently present them to an audience. However, our own techniques we can talk at length about and answer questions etc. so that is why I thought it might be a good idea.

@Lee-White I vote for the real job breakdowns. It seemed to be a hit a while back when Jake pulled the curtain back on a Christmas book he was involved with and I know I want to soak up any insight into specific parts of the process. The other suggestions are great, too. I'm looking forward to whatever it is you discuss.

@Lee-White Maybe you could talk about the art convention scene sometime, too.

Finding your style would be great, it's still something I am tending with myself! And Interviews with other artists are always good as well.

I think how to "stylize" characters would be great

                          Here's my list of ideas

                          • 3rd Thursday where you all just focus on questions from anyone who writes in.

                          • 3rd Thursday focused on writing, and see if you can get a guest who has experience in writings picture books, such as Arree Chung to talk about the differences between being just an illustrator vs both and illustrator artist.

                          • 3rd Thursday on the hard aspects of being an illustrator in the children book industry, and some of the things that we should be prepared for, as well as those things you wish you knew before getting involved.

                          • 3rd Thursday featuring an SVS student who recently got rep'd, and interview them.

The two I'd be most interested in are style and job breakdown. I can't wait for third Thursday!

I'd like to see "finding your style" and "real job breakdowns". I'm still wobbling back and forth and around on style so badly that I don't complete anything, and I have a hard time explaining to people how I hope to someday get work as an illustrator. Either of the topics as a 3rd Thursday would be great!

@holleywilliamson We have a fantastic artist, Heather Neisham, who is making a new stylization video for us. First with animals, then human characters. here is some of her work:

As a subset to finding your style, how to know if your style is appealing to art buyers.

@stringfellowart that's a simple one. Is anyone showing interest and buying it?

I'd vote for Real Job Breakdown. I'd love to hear about how a job works when it goes well and also how to handle problems and curve balls.
