      Here is my rough for this Months Prompt:
      A Hidden Weapon and a Hidden Agenda!

      Not sure how to paint it ๐Ÿ˜ž
      I am better at sketching than painting.

      I am trying to use what I learned from the some of the SVS color classes. I was trying to emphasizing the red to create a focal point with the dagger and the blood on the victim, while keeping the two women more neutral/greys and cool colors(sad colors?). Not sure if I should have the assassin darker and high contrast in the background because it could imply something sinister and well, dark...

      Also having trouble figuring out what I want to put in the background.

      I admit this piece might be a little dark for the SVS Community... Not a Children's Book, but any feedback would be appreciated. ๐Ÿ˜›

        This is really cool. I love the mood and classic, theatrical feel of it. I feel like it's a little overt for "hidden" as a keyword or prompt. If the assassin were more blended into the background, or into the shadows, or somehow you create the illusion of him not being there, then upon closer inspection, you see him it would communicate "hidden" more. (and you did say it was a rough, so maybe you're planning to hide him more ) That being said, it's beautiful just the way it is! It's stark but has a softness. I love the limited color palette.

          I did some alternative compositions with the piece. To flush out the design. I tried "hiding" the dagger behind his back. Then gave him a mask to show him having a hidden agenda. I am planning to hide the dagger into the shadows while hinting at it as a second read with the blood color. I'll have to see if I can pull it off. ๐Ÿ˜›

          I then did another thumb/rough as I thought he might need some more people to hide his intentions to.

          Then in the third piece I tried moving him to the background and having a guard or leader of some sort calling to his men to find the assassin while he slips away into the crowd.

          Not sure which one to go with. I like the first two as there seems to be too much going on in the third piece but that's just my taste.

            Responding to your original wip work. I really hope you can keep some of those "sketch" lines and quality. I sometimes like that in my own work. And even the colour palette is beautiful even if your not completely done. Your angle's are beautiful, staircase down to the emotional rawness of your subjects. I value your ability convey emotion.

              I agree with @Heather-Boyd about keeping the sketchiness and feel of the original sketch. I still like that one the best. As I said, you could change nothing about it and it's still a beautiful piece. If you wanted to convey "hidden" more, perhaps there isn't a whole lot you'd need to change...

                I think I like the last composition, without the addition of the guard. I feel it conveys the concept more. You may be able to get the guard to work, but I find him too distracting as is. It might also be an interesting idea to have the people in the crowd in masks. Maybe it was a festival and so the assassin took the opportunity to hide within the sea of masked people.

                Other than that, I'm finding the expressions of the women sad, but very serene. The man is still writhing in agony, but the women have neutral-sad expressions. Opening their mouths, and scrunching their eyes a bit more may help with their expressions.

                Additionally the ground plane of the floor that the woman and the assassinated man are lying on is a bit unclear. Is he on her lap? Is he on the side of her legs? I feel more clarity in this area is needed.

                I agree with the others in that I think you could keep the sketchy quality. Keep that hatching you had in your original image as you continue to render. You can probably get away with very little coloring if any if you keep rendering like that.

                Great job so far. Can't wait to see the end result.

                  Getting closer to resolving the composition. I wasn't sure and I was struggling a bit with the position of the body and legs of the victim. I couldn't decide what side the legs should go. I ended up putting him across her lap, but still not sure if I am happy with the position.

                  I liked the triangular composition of the original piece, but after looking it more, I had to agree with Eli that it is a little too overt. So I put the killer more in the shadows and in the background and more of a secondary read.

                  I took TessaW's advice and added masks to the people in the background. I not sure of the idea, but I thought I would contrast it with the killer with the crowd by making the killers mask sad while he was smiling underneath his mask vs everyone else who are wearing smiling masks and perhaps sad underneath. Also the two women, and the victim have no masks contrasting the crowd. I might put a mask on the floor near the victim that would make it the victims mask - not sure if this would add to the piece or make it more confusing.

                  Hopefully I can square the composition away and start working more on the painting. I am not very good at coloring yet, so I want to try and give myself more time to finish off the piece.

                        Been working on my submission for Hidden Prompt. But I have been looking at this all day and I am not sure what to do to take it to the next level. It feels unfinished to me. I find the scratchy pencil lines give it a nice texture but it also makes it feel more like a sketch and a has a unrefined look when contrasted with the inked lines. I am struggling to find a way to make the two fit together - although this might be only in my head, but I am running out of time before the deadline! Yikes~ lol
