I started a book cover with all kinds of excitement! I tried to just go on my own instincts since the book is SO iconic. I just didn’t want to copy...but then I took a look at the cover and the original cover is OBVIOUSLY quite present in my mind. Well I’m back to the drawing board to try to come up with my own ideas.
Anyone else getting stumped by iconic images?

@JennyJones I was thinking of avoiding it altogether with the Alice in Wonderland. Perhaps including a bit of the familiar with a bit of undiscovered or a favourite part that resinated with you, an idea or feeling you want to convey.

        🙂 I hope this helps.

@Heather-Boyd yes. That’s the ticket. I’m digging a little deeper. And maybe I will go with another title altogether. I have a few others in my mind too. I thought about The Borrowers, Little Women, or Beezus and Ramona. I’m working all of them up. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for Alice. I’m really excited to see everyone’s covers at the end month. This is a great prompt!

Hi 😊 I know the problem you're describing. What helps me if I feel anyhow stuck is mind mapping. For me it's a good way to see which information is essential to include to evoke a feeling for the story and to see connections you maybe haven't seen before. I also like about mind mapping that you basically can go crazy! Maybe it could help you to move away from the images that are already running around in our heads. 😊

Mind mapping is indeed a good technique to discover a fresh approach. Try making a list of words that come to mind when you think of the book. Then make some sketches combining them to come up with new concepts.
