What im learning at my SVA residency
-
@Aleksey you can do cool things with the toned paper. Very nice!
-
@djly oh no im gonna do something else. I didnt enjoy making this one as much as I thought
-
Ok working on a comic page I like more.
-
@Aleksey
I like very much this comic page. Do you have experience drawing comics before? -
@Maxi-Silva not professionally just for fun
-
Alrighty heres my baba yaga inked
-
Herss another one. Its done on smooth bristol. Anyone have experience with using watercolor on bristol paper? Is it fine?
-
@Aleksey I see we went with slippers on baba yaga
-
@Braden-Hallett regular shoes haha once they said theres gonna be a gallery showing of all the student work i was like oh crap.
-
@Aleksey Dude, it looks really good! The toes actually didn't look bad at all (though I totally understand your motive to go with the shoes instead )
-
Heres the colored baba yaga house
Also spoke with an art director that looked at my portfolio and recommended i go into visual development specifically because i can draw little items and character concepts well. This made me feel so good

Good exercise for comic writing!
3 random words from a bag you make a 6 panel comic from. It could be anything itβs fun practice to get your brain to just do something random. There was an hour timer.
-
@Aleksey I like that exercise. I will have to try it sometime. Yours came out pretty good.
-
@theprairiefox thanks it was fun i may do another one for funsies
-
@Aleksey That method of generating comics might make for an interesting community challenge!
-
@Braden-Hallett yeah it might be! I've been very busy as you can see and cant post anything community wise right now i dont even think i can do the godzilla one even thuoght i really wanted to draw godzillas mom with a slipper or a rolling pin wearing an apron and hair curlers.
-
Inspiring stuff. love your ink work and your comics, it should be in a museum!
-
@Aleksey it would probably take me an hour to come up with an idea let alone draw it. Great job. I like this style you are doing.
-
@Jorge-Valentin Hahaha Hahaha I needed that laugh thank you for the compliment though
-
@demotlj well I came up with cup and candle first, I thought what if they were on a table? Where would the camel go in? I donβt wanna spend an hour drawing a camel. Then I thought how can I imply it. And a letter on a desk was the easy solution. (This is how my brain works)
