What im learning at my SVA residency
-
Ok whew here are all the ones I managed to finish today.
- Baba Yaga on a hog / Catherine the great lobular adaptation
- The 3 Baba Yaga sisters and the thread the heroes always follow through the woods
- My editorial assignment for apples affects on transportation (has to do with the Apple car)
- My exlibris
- A philanthropic poster (was very tired by this point...so it’s fine.
-
I am so tiredd
-
@Aleksey can imagine! You've done so much And each one is detailed with a story attached. Thank you for sharing - very motivating to see. What do you to unwind?
-
@Qi Un..wind? whats this word?
kidding
I usually watch anime and draw for myself silly things or get some froyo or go hang out with my gf or her pets. -
(not trying to be rude @Aleksey, but the adjunct faculty and at least the untenured profs aren't the ones getting paid the big bucks. Most of the money goes to the administrators. RISD was the same way. Some of the facilities were well maintained - Industrial Design for example - but the FAV area was really run down when I was there.)
-
@Aleksey The final groups look great! Your inking looks super balanced and well-thought out. Are you able to hand-letter the Desmond Tutu quote for that extra touch?
-
@Adriana-Bergstrom heck no!
-
@Adriana-Bergstrom oh yeah im very aware of college funding my mom used to work As a bookkeeper for a college. You weren’t rude I love all the instructors and stagf, i was mainly commenting how it doesn’t go back into the school facilities as well as it could. Although to be fair sva has several buildings in prime manhattan spots so that’s probably very expensive on its own.
-
Finished the baba yaga sisters
Also made my postcards!
-
@Aleksey Love the postcard!
-
So i watched @Lee-White ’s video on loosening up with watercolor and ended up using hot pressed instead of cold pressed (ive never used water colors so this happened)
Then googled stuff and learned that i dont have to use as much water on hot pressed and frisket and peel the paper off so i just redid it ok a separate sheet and used the wet on dry Strategy and turned out ok! The sun beam isn’t part of the painting just the universe giving me praise
Next step is to slowly add textures with ink
-
@Aleksey Great sun beam, fitts really well on YOur water color picture
-
@MichaelaH haha
-
Ok this is done! It's gonna he a philanthropic poster
-
@Aleksey I keep going back and forth over whether to do the watercolor first and then ink or to ink and then do the watercolor over it. I think I’m leaning toward the first so that I don’t over do it with the ink and I liked seeing your process and results. Beautiful picture.
-
@demotlj thats a good method. I liked doing the watercolor first but next fime im gonna lightly erase the pencil lines cause i had to do too much to fic it in photoshop.
-
@Aleksey Great job on the inking! I'm so enjoying your travelogue from the residency.
-
If anyone is in or around nyc and want to stop by it’s open to the public.
-
@Aleksey I love the work you’re doing at this residency. It seems like it’s been a really enriching experience so far!
