@Braden-Hallett I think this might be one that is not so far above my level and getting in from the start will be great—count me in and thanks so much for initiating this!

@Braden-Hallett I have a basic question: is there a way to post daily exercise in this topic without it being a reply?

being a newbie to inking, I just realized I don't have a brush pen 😛 I bought a set of brushmarkers (winsor newton). but that's actually a felt tip I guess. Just ordered the pcoket brush (pentel)/ Local shop doesn't have them. Still practicing with the felt tip (Which seems to be getting a little bent actually). The one I ordered comes with two refills so hopefullly that takes me though this practice and inktober! I also have a pigma micron pen, using that too.

@Coley a friend of mine who uses exclusively the tiniest microns, deliberately crushes the tip against a desk or something to get a messed up tip and it gives her an even more unique line. I encourage messed up tools for unique looks!

                            @BichonBistro I don't think so, no 🙂 I think it's replies or start a new thread.

If you're worried about cluttering the first week's feed (but don't worry, it's fine 🙂 I think everyone likes seeing all the different linework practice methods ) then you could always start your own thread.

@Braden-Hallett I never noticed the blue reply button (who says artists are observant...) so I was always replying to an individual post instead of the topic thread 🤦‍♀️

I wanted to share this little DIY project with ya’ll because inktober is almost nigh. I ordered a few empty brushpens from ebay (2 dollars each) and made my own wash pens. I figured these tips wouldn’t be the best quality since they are so cheap so I’d try to make wash pens out of them. And success! @Braden-Hallett ty for your sacrifice

                                Empty brushpen:
                                0B6B7D2B-463A-47BD-BF7B-E7D4E7378E9D.jpeg

A “converter” that came with the brushpen, its cheap but you can order nicer ones from the internet, I bought a few for $5 that were glass instead of plastic but the plastic one seems to hold more volume so I kept it (if it breaks i have a spares). Youtube “international converters” if you want to see how all the different ones work, this one is a twisty one
                                9FE84CD1-614D-4D72-96D8-F23C1815C8C4.jpeg

Mix water with ink until you get a ratio you like then dip brushpen into the container (I used an empty little jar I had lying around) and fill the converter (Make sure its on nice and firm! So it doesnt spill)
                                77307DEB-39FB-4474-8484-2FF7A9AFDAE7.jpeg

Test to see if to your liking, pour out add water if too dark (i found it easier to pour ink into it then mix water in for this specific project-repeat until you like it)
                                E6793FAF-2A07-4580-B228-DAC2D62FB64C.jpeg

I did a green ink wash and a sepia ink wash cause I ordered 3 brush pens, might make more!

Save jars of washes (label them so you know which is which ) for when brushpens empty and you need to refill

Im gonna do the same thing with fountain pens when they arrive! Let me know what you think and if you think this is annoying or helpful.

@Aleksey I didn't even know converters existed! That's so cool!

I tried something like this a long time ago but the only refillable brush pens I could find (pre easy online ordering) were like 15 bucks a pop :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_closed_eyes:

                                  Well prepared for inktober!

@Braden-Hallett yeah gouletpens.com sells a really nice standard international one for fountain pens. I ordered a cheap “jinhao” fountain pen and im going to try and replace the nib with a manga G pen nib and another one with a nice vintage nib. They both seem to be the same size so they should fit. I’ll keep you posted!

Here is Friday's: Back to digital. I changed the pixel count to 1200 and size to 11 x 14 but then I have a time delay on the thick strokes. It makes them all wobbly and wonky. Hatching becomes almost impossible. Does anyone else have that issue or is that an issue with my surface book?

@Aleksey What would be the difference between this and a waterbrush that you use to do portable watercolor painting? (By the way, I like your Winsor Newton pocket set. I have one that I use all the time, though I changed the pans.)
