"Dress up" WIP - critiques please
-
Hi everyone! I'm a SVS and SCBWI noob! This is my first post to this forum. Thought I'd participate in the monthly challenges since they all seem so wonderfully interesting!
Here's my WIP for this month's SCBWI Draw This! Challenge. Prompt "Dress up"
Feedback is welcomed!

@Neha-Rawat Oh this is fun! He has a “ time to make the donuts “ face going on! Is that reference too 80’s. I’m old. The concept is really great. Can’t wait to see more
-
@Neha-Rawat @Neha-Rawat @Neha-Rawat I love this expression! and the rest of the costume hanging up with the unwitting sheep in the window view: really fun
I enjoyed dressing a dog up like a lamb as part of a March goes out like a lamb theme several years ago, but it lacks the storytelling element that is so great in your illustration

Awesome concept
I dunno how many entries are gonna tie together other source material to really get a story across (mine certainly doesn't :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_closed_eyes: )
Composition-wise it seems fine to me. It'll be neat to see what you do with the values and colour.

This is so cute! He's just not ready to start his day yet.
Welcome to SVS!
-
Haha, we can all relate! It's a good choice so far, can't wait to see what you do with the rest!
-
@JennyJones Haha! Thank you! (I was not familiar with the reference so I googled it :D)
-
@BichonBistro Thank you so much! This dog is too cute! And love the pun too!
-
@Braden-Hallett @TwiggyT @Amanda-Jean Thank you!
-
Love the expression on the wolf, great idea!
-
That’s for all the wonderful feedback everyone!
Here’s the coloured version of the illustration. I’ve size of the wolf a little more from my initial sketch so that’s it stood out more. It also took me a while to figure out the colours and values.
Critiques are welcomed!

Looks great! Love the textures
-
Ha ha ha it is so great, love the expression
-
@Neha-Rawat I think it's really good! The only minor tweak I would maybe suggest is pushing the "tired" look of the wolf. Maybe an extra line under the eyes, or even darkening under the eyes??? Just to really sell the "tired" expression and not "sad". Not sure ... it may not be needed, but just an idea.
-
@drawnbyshawn thanks shawn! Yes that makes sense since the under eye wrinkle seems to be camouflaging with the fur Colors. Maybe I can add a little redness to the tired eyes! I'll check it out. Thank you!

@Neha-Rawat love it

Can anyone tell me, where SCBWI announce their drawthis prompts?
-
@peteolczyk I struggled to find this info, too, and finally realized that their monthly email newsletter update "Insight" has the prompt in it. So that's where I'm going to start looking for it. I think you have to be a member to get it.
-
@Coreyartus I'm a member, and I can't find it either. The last one I found is for May
-
@peteolczyk @Coreyartus @Amanda-Jean The prompt word is send out in the newsletter, but the submission process remains exactly the same (same submission address, same requirements as all the other prompts).
So follow the submission steps for may, but put 'dress up draw this' in the subject line
