      Hi everyone,
I’m planning to work on the #portfolioclub challenge on Instagram. (Anyone else doing this?)
At the beginning of each month, one of the challenge creators will post a prompt and you have to upload your illustration on the last day of the month with the #portfolioclub hashtag.
I missed the first month but I’ve made it now just because it seemed like an interesting topic. The prompt for the first month was “circus”.
I’ve only ever been to a circus once in my life and I remember not liking it at all. I was too young to realise or understand how the circus animals are treated but the place just gave me a very unsettling vibe. I really didn’t want to illustrate a “happy circus” mood because I just didn’t relate to it. So I came up with this instead.
I’m not completely convinced of the expressions of the animals, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

This is super cute. I think the expressions are great, maybe if a few of them were looking back to make sure they weren't caught sneaking away? I'm wondering if the size of the animals could be played with. It might be more fun and dynamic if they were more true to their scale. As you have it now, that's either a very large parrot and monkey or a small elephant.

@Neha-Rawat Hi it is very nice one, I know the challange, wanted to do the circus, but did get to it. The animals get the light from moon, I think it would be nice, to have the moon highlights in cool blue light, not its is more warm, like from the lamp. It is lovely composition 👍🏻

@jakecrowe I love your idea of making some of the animals look back! I think that'll help emphasise the overall mood. Thank you for the suggestion!

I understand what you mean by sizing the animals to make it more dynamic. But I'm really struggling with how to do that without it eating up on the "quietness" of the empty night sky.

@MichaelaH Thank you for your suggestion. Yes a cool blue glow from the moon would work just right!

@DOTTYP thank you! (psst... yes they managed to escape :))
