anyone here do slowvember before or doing it this year? I have at least one piece in mind I'd like to take to portfolio level so I was curious if anyone else had done it or planning to. I really need to build a portfolio (and start understanding what it is lol)

@Meta I wasn't doing any illustration last year so I didn't know about it until recently either. would be fun to have a group all working on a portfolio piece πŸ™ƒ

@Coley Does a Portfolio piece always have to be that elaborated? I mean, I thought I could use part of my Inktobers for my Portfolio. Nevertheless it's great to have really high quality pieces to show. A mixture of both?

@Meta oh I am sure you can use whatever you feel represents your work the best! I'm sure tons of people use the inktober pieces!

I like the idea and I'm planning on it because, just being perfectly honest, I still don't really have a grasp on what my "style" still looks like. I'm relatively new to adding color to my art, so part of it is I feel like I'm still blindly trying all these techniques trying to find what I feel comfortable with and what feels right. I was considering doing something like adding color 3 or 4 times different ways and see what happens.

It's also a good call to take a break from the frantic Inktober, which is kind of a slog by the end lol.

@jdubz I'm all over the place too in style and technique. Feeling pretty confused actually 🀯 really needing to try to figure out how to shut the noise out yet learn at the same time and just find my own way.... It's hard!

@Coley Yeah. What I've started to do is the extremes. So for example the last couple weeks I've just been doing a quick sketch, then painting everything all on one canvas. No layers. No undoing, just adding paint. I started doing some value only stuff a few weeks ago and I think I'll spend a few weeks in November doing the full value (black and white only), then laying down gradient maps for foundation, and then building overlays on top of it layer after layer. I've got a few more "styles" that I've seen that I think I'm going to just work through and do kind of a "this or that" thing where I try and determine which way felt more natural and what results I felt looked more right to me.

I’m eager to give Slowvember a try but I can’t think of a scene to draw. Something that I can be excited about and look forward to giving a little TLC every night throughout November. I’m hoping whatever I d]end up drawing can become my new mousepad πŸ™‚

Slowvember is HARD. That is why I wanted to make it. It forces you to slow down and make concrete decisions. Not so easy! Good luck everyone!

Every illustration I do is slow, and I'm going to be away for the first week of November, so I'm thinking Slowvember should be about my speed! πŸ˜‚ Sure, I'm joking, but the idea is to finish something, so it should still help.

Slowvember is becoming more appealing by the moment.

@Lee-White Life in general for me has been moving pretty fast the past few years so I look forward to anything slow. Except maybe slow drivers in front of me in traffic πŸ˜‰

I will be doing a slowvember/draw50things combo after the rush that was Inktober. Have my idea for a story picked out. Will begin with the thumbnails Nov 1st!

The second half of November will be the moment I actually quit my job and take some vacation time before I transition into a freelance career in the new year, which will hopefully include some illustration work as well. So yes, I am in!! (free time in between jobs is essentially going to be dedicated to making portfolio illustrations!)
