Sad news! I grew up reading Asterix & Obelix, and count those moments as some of my fondest childhood memories. Still have most of the original books! Guess I'll dig them out of the bookshelf later today, and give them another whorl.

@Georgios-Christopoulos i know. So sad. Just read about him passing. I grew up reading Asterix and Obelix, and Lucky Luke. Beautiful picture

@Casual-T Me too mate.. I have all the originals.. Time to give them a go..

@MirkaH we all did. I don't think at this point, that there is a single cartoon illustrator that hasn't been influenced by the duo, one way or another.. Thanks a lot btw..

I was introduced to Asterix in my high school French class and because the US doesn’t carry them, started a life long quest to buy additional books in the original French anytime I was in Canada. Montreal was a great source and I eventually collected them all. As a kid I just liked the stories but as an adult I studied the art. He was a wonderful illustrator.

Aww. I didn't know this. My kids and I love those books. I did some master studies recently of his horses....just sketches but I was trying to figure out ways of stylizing horses as I tend to do things too realistic, especially with horses.
I love your illustration. It's very touching to have those characters seeing him off.
Thanks for sharing and stay safe! -
