April WIP brings May.... Robots?
-
I think the re-shoot was well worth it! Looks great to me! The comp, clarity, colors, and added details are all well done. Maybe some very slight vignetting like you had in some of the other samples might be in order, but it definitely looks fantastic as-is!

Sooooooo incredible!!

Blooper Reel
Lisa took some time to "find her groove"
here are some outtakes.
It was fun finding her range. Even though her face can't move I feel like she was able to create quite a few looks. The robot also changed quite a lot.

This is just the most fascinating thread to follow, and you've done a WONDERFUL job on this! I'm stunned, especially since you said you've never done this before
If I tried something like this, well...it would be a hot mess in about a minute, for sure. Absolutely love this project!
[insert standing ovation here]

This turned out FANTASTIC!!
-
@EliaMurrayArt It's wonderful
and all I can say is many many thanks for sharing all of this. It's so inspiring to see you go for it when lately I've been searching for motivation. what a way to win a contest without any judging necessary
-
@carolinebautista omgosh haha thank you so much
all I can say is go forth and make more art no matter how daunting it may feel.
-
@EliaMurrayArt I will keep going!!! But I have to say that at this point, despite the chaos you so clearly show, blowing up my robot entry seems like my best option
-
This is great. My one bit of feedback is the values of the piece. Since you are using models and a physical set, my suggestion is either editing in photoshop afterwards or using lights to make the character in the foreground pop more. I posted a photo with the gray values to show what i mean.
The floor is a light lass and the walls are a slightly darker mass. So they keep pulling a lot of attention away. On a film set (i only know this because my partner works in film) they would break it up with textures or more objects, and with lights. The objects on the floor are similar in value to the floor and the clothes and hair of the character are similar in value to the wall. -
@ArtofAleksey thank you so much for pointing this out to me!! I am going to see if I can digitally adjust the background/foreground accordingly and potentially repost!
-
@ArtofAleksey and any one else... Thoughts?
While I still have time to change hahaWhat do you all think - light or dark? Crazy how great digital editing is haha
-
Surprise third option!!
-
@EliaMurrayArt I can't believe I'm going to try to critique this, it's just so amazing. I really like the darkness of the background and floor of the surprise third option โย it highlights Lisa and the sparks and makes the debris stand out more. The only thing that I see if that the red wire that's causing the spark now gets lost in shadow, so its a little difficult to see where the big spark came from. Just my 2ยข. So good!
-
@Aaron_T that is a great and honest critique - I will attempt to pull that red wire out from the shadows! I think I'm agreeing with you- that the third option works best for me.
-
@EliaMurrayArt I like #2
I think # 2 it's perfect you can see the red wire very clear. -
Here's a combo, pulling out that red wire and even getting bright around the spark and I think it works really well! haha this is what happens when you get excited and rush to finish things.. there's always things to tweak at the end.
-
@EliaMurrayArt I can't imagine the word "rush" describes anything in this project. I brought my wife in here and she went through the thread, digging into every picture. "How long did this take?!?! Tell her I love everything about this!" So there you go.
It's much more clear now where the large spark originates now, and you're right, the cast light from the spark is more representative of what would likely be happening. Looks great.
-
@Aaron_T haha thank you and thank your wife profusely from me!
Haha this project was definitely long, and arduous, and certainly rushed in some areas. But I almost like that better. I felt like I had no time, and so I made some snap decisions that I think worked to my benefit. i.e. not actually building wooden cabinets hahaha
-
When you win are you going to do the podcast illustration in this style?
-
@TessaW oh god. I didn't think that far... haha let's see what happens and I'll save my mental collapse for later.
there is no guarantee I'd win and I do not want to get my hopes up.
