hi everyone! i have done my lamp...made it a bit flatter so it looks more of a lamp and less of a jug. truth to be told, its not really how i imagined the outcome to look like, what do you all think?
iv taken out the inlaid pearls or whatever those designs were meant to be. Too complicated. besides, its being a background prop and not a hero prop. and also, i think its just being in a regular Persian persons house, not the king....
its the first time i designed something, as well as almost my first time renedering a piece digitally so please please give feedback coz thats really the best way to grow!

      thanks to all!

I too just started the course and I will be doing the first assignment tonight. I am thinking of doing a beach theme lamp. It would be great to go through it with a group of people. My schedule varies as I have 3 kids and a full time job to juggle. I will post on this thread when I have something.

@Leah – Awesome! I like the simplicity, and the cascading sides still give it a distinct, elegant character. I struggle with light and shadow myself, but the way you did it seems very convincing. :-]

Hey there! Here’s the work I’ve done so far for the prop class. Since I’m working on a portfolio I decided to do my own thing a bit!68B2FCBE-4252-40A1-B136-A12FD4058E06.png

              C&C welcome, of course!

Ok, got some silhouettes done for the first assignment. Was thinking of what type of lamp a squirrel might have in its nest. This is the best thumbnail. I'd show the rest, but the 3yo Phantom of the Art Studio has decided to use markers with my silhouettes and thumbnails and they're all covered in technicolor scribbles now. 20200702_061740 (1).jpg 20200702_061734.jpg

@PieterVanDerBeek I like the extra width and more joints at the bottom, it balances it nicely

@charitymunoz I feel like we were on similar brach-lamp vibes! I like how the light looks like a bug and also a blossom at the same time.

@Mairin-Kareli I was going for what a squirrel would have in it's nest (my 9yo's suggestion). We determined it would use a lightning bug, but it would have to treat it well, like a pet - hence the grass at the bottom and perchlike structure for the "lamp". I love all the twists and shapes you gave yours!! Great job!

Here is my page of silhouettes! Took me a lot longer than it should have, but it was my first time doing an exercise like this. I hope that each time I do this exercise; I can get a little faster with it.

My concept was a flamingo lamp designed for the Queen of Hearts from Alice In Wonderland. I imagined Alice In Wonderland with a steampunk aesthetic. The ones circled in blue are the ones I decided to take to the thumbnail stage 🙂
