AUGUST CONTEST: Dragonfly
-
Hi, I hope everyone is happy and healthy.
This will be my first time entering.
I love all things nature. So this sounds like fun. Not that the others didn't sound fun. They did!
I had ideas for the last one. But, put other things first. It's also very interesting.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone creates.
I love realism. But, recently trying to completely change my focus, and create a new portfolio geared towards children's book art. It's a much bigger market than caricatures. And my shift isn't just for financial gain.
Creating something for someone to love and enjoy sounds nice. Creating something for thousands of kids to love and enjoy, sounds like awesome fun!
So, enjoy the process, and make it fun,...for me! And thousands of kids!

@Chip-Valecek Dragonfly, very simple yet very complex at the same time. I'm very excited for all of your submissions. Have fun everyone.
-
Oh wow! Such a WIDE OPEN prompt this month!!
I'm not sure whether to go literal or play to my strengths (dragons!) and do a pun on the word "dragon-fly"
There's going to be a lot to "chew" on this month and I have a feeling getting those 50 thumbnails in is going to be super easy!
-
@jsnzart I'm not necessarily a nature lover, more of an indoorsy person, but when I do get out in it I think it's beautiful. I did some research last night on the dragonfly and it's a fasinating insect. There are more ways to go with this prompt than I initially thought.
-
@deborah-Haagenson Yes.
It is a fascinating creature. And pretty amazing! And with our posts, we can see some ideas forming. You being indoorsy,...etc.
So, maybe a dragonfly flew inside and sat on something.
I don't recall ever seeing a dragonfly indoors.
So, that sounds pretty interesting.
Remember to do thumbnails, and sketch loosely(happy mistakes). And make a decision.
Don't fall in love with it.Have fun creating it. And complete it!
-
When I hear "Dragonfly" the first thing that comes to mind is the work of Stephanie Law. If you've never come across her work take a look, it's beautiful.
May get in on this one if I get a chance.
-
Another great one word prompt from Lee, I Love Dragonflys. Ive missed the last two but going to do my best to take part in on this one.
Good luck everyone. -
I love dragonflies! I even already had a dragonfly idea in the works, though I might try and flex my creative muscles a bit more first.
-
Fun fact: Dragonflies are part of a very small number of creatures on earth that are almost completely identical to their prehistoric ancestors for as long as we've had fossils of them!
-
Oh. wow. Dragonfly is more or less my favorite creature :-).
-
My morning began so purposefully..I was even on my way to working on this months prompt. Research side track->> wow.

Thank you for the suggestion; she has gorgeous work. It sort of reminds me of Trina Shart Hyman and James Browne.
-
@djlambson Woah, thatβs very cool! Interesting information and a great resource for dragonfly movement studies. Thanks for sharing Iβm in the research stage for this prompt so I expect I might end up spiralling into a bit of distraction tornado myself today haha
-

James Browne
Oh nice, I like her illustrations a lot, thanks. James Browne I've been following for a while, he does some fantastic work. Stephanie's art like most peoples is even more spectacular to see in person.
-
@Blitz55 Love her!
-
I learned a few things along the way, thank you in advance for the support!
