AUGUST CONTEST: Dragonfly
-
I was inspired by my three boys who are in cub scouts to do this illustration. I can see this is a nonfiction nature book or magazine.
-
@carrieannebrown yes Carrie-Ann I’m kinda obsessed with textures. There is a watercolor paper texture in there that I made but other than that it’s all stock brushes in the procreate app. I appreciate the ️!
-
I have been learning silently from SVSLearn. Here’s my first entry.
The front of my car has an embarrassing amount of smushed bugs on it. Sometimes they get lucky.

Loving seeing the creative goodness in this thread and the wealth of talent.
I'm new to this posting platform so hopefully I've done this right! Keep happy and healthy everyone wherever you are in the world. -
@Jess-Weaver love this one. Colors, concept, style.
-
@Chip-Valecek whats's the deadline for Dragonfly please? Many thanks!
-
@Mike-Mirfin August 31, which is tomorrow.
-
Uploading an image after seeing all the wonderful entries is daunting, but no risk, no reward, right??
-
For this one I made a little story involving my kids, so if nothing else, they'll be amused
Attempted traditional media for the characters; watercolour base and prismacolor pencils over the top in places. Tonnes of room for improvement but I enjoyed the experiment. -
@JDRpictures sorry, I meant I think that's what Lee used in response to your question. Yours is really beautiful too! Not sure how you've managed to include so many colours but still make it look so cohesive.
-
@djlambson I love the color!
-
So much amazing work this month as always! I really enjoyed this prompt. Tried a completely different process this time.
-
This is my first time submitting to the context. 'dragonfly' was a great prompt - I am looking forward to seeing everyone's work
-
@Mara-Price Nice to hear..thank you!
-
Settled on this version of this one.
-
Oh man, am I ever not going to get butterflies when submitting work
This prompt was super fun and I had a great time coming up with a whole story for a little middle grade graphic novel. Except that wasn't the challenge! So I spent half the month on concept and a much shorter time on actual art. Oh well, I will for sure use the story stuff in the future, nothing is wasted!
-
EDIT uploaded my file again as I had uploaded the wrong one!
Wow! Each project is a completely different learning experience... I wish I'd had more time for this piece, but oh well, I had fun and did what I could in the little time I had! BTW, I love how different all the submitted designs are... so beautiful!
-
Hope everyone is well and enjoying life. Here is my submission for this month. overly underestimated how little time i would have with teaching remotely and taking two classess. I just could not let go of my personal goal of submitting something each month.
What you see is just a quick piece most likely unfinished with zero planning. I apologize for the half finished work.
I wanted to bend the boat into a more dynamic design, add bright bugish color schemes, and commuicate more of sky to signify the flying. In addition, there is something wonky about the perspective of the front of the boat. Anyways like this quotes says, “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly” here is my poorly finished dragonfly flying ship that I love. Thanks and much love!
-
Good luck everyone!

Ok, here goes my first contest submission (and also my first finished image in Procreate!) So happy to have found this amazing community, and to begin to take in so much great information.
