I live outside of the US and was able to download all brushes with no issues. Also the new brush management in PS is much better than it used to be, so at least Adobe heard that cry in the end. Still, it is not match for BrushBox, so I hope Derrick Barth will release a CC18 compatible version of BrushBox soon.
As for people not being able to access Kyle´s brushes if they do not have a subscription...I only started using Kyle´s brushes about 8 months ago and have been working for years without - like many many other digital artists, who still do (one famous one that only works with a handful of standard brushes is Lois Van Barle).
I am not totally comfortable with Adobe having a near monopoly on graphical software either - as deserved as it might be. Yet as a heavy user of the whole CC suite in my day job, I do not see the competition even coming close yet, not for all the demands of professional design work. Just thinking of color management and file synchronization between multiple applications - nobody is really endengearing Adobe´s monopoly, so I hope they will keep the focus on the users, as they have been able to do, more or less, so far.

@jazeps-tenis exactly! You can’t, not really describe success or failure. Only if you are doing the hours, in the right way. Do it in public, and work out how to help people. Eventually stuff happens.

@andy-gray I'm currently trying to ween myself off using too many different art programs but that does look interesting especially for storyboarders / story artists.

I sell oil paintings that way. It helps me stay consistent and gives me at least a good baseline for pricing. Also keeps my emotions out of it. Then when it comes time to bump prices it’s an easy amount across the board. For example, last year I had set a price point at $1.50 per square inch and decided that once I sold 10 paintings or had a good show I’d give it a .25 bump. I’m at $2 sq.in. now. For me it makes that part of it easier. To lee’s Point about the Home Depot feel, I agree, but I don’t market art by the inch, that’s just how I come to my prices.

@Stephanie-Leonard, Thanks for posting yours. It's cool to see the common threads running through the art you've chosen. I'm definitely planning to do it. I've been thinking about it since I watched that lesson--I've just been tied up with Inktober. I would be interested in knowing how assembling the dream portfolio influences people's work. My style needs to be honed--or maybe reinvented. I'm hoping that this will help me define where I am going.

It is hard juggling the time between being an artist and being a mom. I love Dave Ramsey too. I will have to check out the mustache guy. I also enjoy listening to YouTube Videos by Fun Cheap or Free while i am drawing sometimes. She is more about the practical day to day implementing of saving money. Dave Ramsey is great for big picture. Good luck, it gets easier as they get older. I have 5 kids from 14 to 1 1/2. I keep telling myself that too!

So, my friend Takeshi, was disturbed by all my monsters and told me I should do angels when I finished the monsters...so, this morning I gave it a whirl. So this is Takeshi's angel. Not planning on doing anymore angels. I don't think :-).

@jonas-zavacky It seems like the same advice applies doesn't it? Decide where you're going with you art and what you need to get there. If it involves environments, learn that and do that. If it involves something else, do those things. But it all comes down to first deciding what you actually want to do.

thank you so much for everything you do, I usually watch your videos while I'm drawing and they give me tons of motivation!

I recently started to get into watercolor, didn't do that for years now. And am really afraid of f-ing up every piece I start. But I think it's going quite well even though I know I have a lot to learn, an can usually name uncountable things that I want to do better the next time 😃

Here is the piece I would love a critique on:

It's the essence of the fairytale 'The star money', my favorite fairy tale when I was a child.

My main goal in this piece was actually to not focus on just the character but work with a light source that casts hard shadows (in this case the glowing star money), as well as a full background. I usually just draw characters not connected to a scenery (so there usually is no specified light source) so this was good practice. I started by sketching on a piece of paper, then scanned it in and tried out different color combinations and shadowing. Then went back to my drawing table and first sketched then colored it.

Since it's the first time I drew something that complex with watercolors I would appreciate it so much if you could give me some feedback. I bet you see stuff I didn't know yet that it was wrong because I had so much to focus on 😃
