JULY CONTEST: Albert needs a home!
-
Here we go again! Last month the challenge was to design a cute but mischievous little character named Albert.
This month we are going to design a home for him!
Albert was a wild animal that is now living with a family, so it should look suburban, but with details and a flair that make it the perfect abode for Albert and his family. Should be cute and playful!
For this challenge, the building should be at a 3/4 angle.
Be sure to upload your entry on the Critique Arena website to officially enter the contest, but post here too so we can all see and comment on your awesome work! As always, please keep this thread for final images only
Good luck everyone!!

Dumb question: are we designing a house for the winning Albert, or our own Albert?
-
@Randi-Gordon In these challenges people design for their own characters. It's a great way to build your own personal portfolio to show. Good luck (and have fun with it)!
-
I missed the previous competition so I guess I need to create an Albert first - like, it needs to be tailored to a specific character, I can't just draw a cool/cute house?
-
@neschof I'm in the same boat.
-
So is it supposed to be the home he lives in within the family home or the families home?
-
@neschof @burvantill The mods usually say you don’t have to stick to the character that you created for the month before – so it’s okay if you don’t have an Albert from June.
We probably just need to get who your Albert is at heart from the picture – so, yeah, you will need to know who your Albert is still.
-
@Kevin-Treaccar Exactly! There should be a hint of who/what Albert is: "details and a flair that make it the perfect abode for Albert and his family". I was wondering if Albert should appear or not in the drawing?
-
@KGatto I think it should be the family home... it is understood the exterior of the house should be represented (at 3/4). If Albert should live in a smaller house inside a room of the house then that would be part an interior. If you are thinking of a little house in the larger house's yard .. I don't feel that answers the "Albert lives with a family as a family member" idea...

@Oana @Kevin-Treaccar
I am thinking of adding my "Albert" to the scene just so the details on the house will make more sense if the viewer knows what/who Albert is. Since I didn't do last month's character design I'm making a house for a current character of mine. -
I read this as exterior 3/4 shot. Is that correct? Or is it just 3/4 shot and can be interior?
-
@Kevin-Treaccar I think the whole presentation reads "exterior"... It mentions "a building", it should look "suburban".. maybe an interior could be suggestive too but I think it would be more difficult, no? I also looked at the previous challenge "a house for a Yeti" and those were all exterior representations.
-
I almost always include linework in my work, so I'm trying something a little different on this one.
-
Here is my house design. Time to load it up to the template. -
@Joe-Koz I love the footprints leading to the splash in the pool!
-
Albert arrives at his new home in England. I hope the colours are ok, I did the value / tone thing first so fingers crossed it has worked. Little Albert bear should be the focal point.
I’m much more comfortable with coloured pencil techniques for colouring in.
-
Here is my entry for july. Looking forward to seeing more homes for Albert.
-
@chrisaakins this is amazing. I love the style choice, everything about this home is appealing to me. Great work, you’ve got my vote!
-
Submitted early for a change…Really loving the house entries so far!

@Asyas_illos thanks so much! I am glad you like it!
