@Jose-A-Nieto That is beautiful! I love the point of view and the color choices, nice job too with not making the background too detailed.

@MelissaJacie No, actually, I go to Unsplash.com for my photo reference. I just did one using a friend's pic that he let me use, and that was fun! I spent last night finding winter landscapes and thinking about composition and layout on the page with each image's inspiration.

The images on Unsplash are all royalty-free with no attribution required, and it's my "go-to" spot to find images that are quite lovely and safe to use. They curate each photo so people can't just upload whatever they want. They're owned by Getty Images, who have no plans on creating a paywall and don't want to in the future--they want it to be free. So It should remain so for the duration if we're lucky.

                        It's worth checking out!

@Coreyartus Thanks for sharing about this resource!!! That's awesome it's so royalty-free and nice that they curate it as well.

Also--it's amazing you'll be printing and assembling the calendar by hand. Do you plan to make many copies?

@MelissaJacie I will make 5 or 6 for Amazon, but the rest I will print as I sell them on Etsy or my own website. This is a very very long-term investment... I made a calendar last year, bought tools and supplies for it, and just about paid everything off. Now I'm committed to making more calendars and print projects in the future, and the profit margin increases as the years go by. I'm not sustaining myself as an illustrator yet, but that is eventually the goal.

Okay, So the month of June was put aside to visit my Mom England and finish illustrating a small beginning reader book. I've worked with this publisher for about 12 years and "Quack" is a reoccurring character in a series of books they market to the education market. I think I would draw him the same but I would probably steer away from the black line though they really like him. Included a few sketches, traditional water color and then the adjustments when scanned in. Enjoy.Quack WIP final.jpg Quack WIP.jpg

@MelissaJacie I believe it was through a site called guru.com that connects freelancers with various projects. Warning, people don't want too pay much,
and there are lot of personal projects but it helped me to learn the ropes about communication, contracts etc. and helped me to build my confidence.

I've been away from this forum for quite a while, but decided to pop in again to see how people are doing. The latest book I've illustrated was recently published here in Sweden, which feels really cool. So now I'm taking some time off to just draw things I enjoy, and practice some color harmony and composition along the way.
