Sometimes, when I just have to buckle down and do it (usually a deadline is involved), I give myself a "carrot". A reward at the end of the illustration/task/project for getting it done.
That usually works the best for me.

My little guy had his first day of kindergarten today, and my momma heart is both bursting with joy for him, and so sad to not have my sidekick at home anymore.
