March 2024 Submissions - How To Fix Your Art
-
@Larue Thanks Larue! It's funny how different all these Griffin stories are, right? We went through each and every post with my kids, telling stories for every illustration. They loved your library griffin a lot!

Hello everyone!
I'm a professional philosopher and a bumbling illustrator. Posting anything publicly is a first for me.
I started working on these pieces a while back, when the prompt was first introduced, because I had promised myself at the start of the year that I would submit something to HTFYA at least once. Unfortunately, I got pretty sick a few weeks back and didn't get the pieces to where I wanted them to be. But, oh well, I made a promise to submit so that's what I did.
Although they are both not quite there yet, I thought I would post both because they are two very different approaches to illustrating the same idea. One of them is still pretty raw, in terms of rendering, but I ended up liking the chaotic energy of the piece. Plus, it made my 7-year-old chuckle, so... why not give it a go?
I think I have watched every one of the HTFYA webcasts and recently bought the course as well (although I didn't get to take full advantage of it yet - Thanks, Covid!). Given that I am completely self-taught, seeing someone like Will, Lee, and Jake critique other aspiring illustrators' pieces has been an eye-opening experience and I look forward to learning more from their critiques this month.
Thanks for doing this guys!
(@AustinShurtliff Sorry about the late submission, I've had trouble signing up to the Forum until Analise thankfully helped me out with it)

@Joshua-Chennault This is amazing! The idea, the rendering, the characters and their poses & expressions - everything is top-notch. I also love the chaotic energy of the main frame. Wish this was an actual animation that I could show my kid, he would love that.
-
@Tash this is clever! Love it!
-
@mag Your joy of working on it really comes out in this piece. Apart from being beautifully done, it also gives off such a lovely vibe. So sweet indeed!

-
@mag absolutely gorgeous work as usual!
-
@Dr-GehorG Thank you!
-
@MarcRobinson Thank you Marc! Your's lovely too, our kids need a pet griffin like yours, they said. So thanks, I guess
-
@Laurie-Sawyer great work! So, the second image is the one you want me to include?
-
Hey guys! I'm so glad you guys are such great talents. I'm still pushing the boundaries of my art. Please be gentle

@cory-jensen Hi Cory, I think you might have meant to submit for the April prompt "Jack reached the edge..." . This is the space for last month's, which was just "griffin."
-
@AustinShurtliff Yes, if it isn't too late
-
@Laurie-Sawyer April prompt isn't due until end of March, so you're good. You even still have time to make any small adjustments. Some artists will post their work in progress asking for critiques, but the April 2024 page is just for final submissions if you're ready. This looks awesome btw
-
@Erin-Hawkins thank you so much! Sorry, I just saw your comment. Hope you're having a good day!
-
@cory-jensen, is this supposed to be for the April prompt (it talks about Jake and the griffin), or is this for the March prompt? I could still add it in for this month, but if it is for April you'll want to post it to the April thread. Jsut let me know before March 18th.
-
@Laurie-Sawyer Yes! I will include the second one.
-
@AustinShurtliff Yes sorry I guess I was a bit confused :s sorry It's supposed to be for the April prompt

@AustinShurtliff Hi Austin! I'm new to SVS as of last month, so forgive my newbie question, did I miss the March critique on YouTube? I noticed last month that it happened mid-month, but I can't seem to find a date posted for this month? Or is it being combined with the April work because those two prompts are related? thanks!
-
Hello! Does anyone know when the March live is? It seems that SVS is on spring break this week?"
