Godzilla prompt: Lets Share Our WIPs and Inspiration!

Godzilla: the children's book
Im not much on the Godzilla scene, so I asked my husband if there was anything to know besides
- Giant lizard monster thing
- that comes from the sea
- and smashes buildings
He said theres also a bit where
*people trained Godzilla to fight space invaders and other monsters- and Godzilla species thrive on radioactivity
- and they lay their eggs in radioactive areas
Theres also that thing with king kong or whoever (big monkey)
If you have any insights on or knowledge about Godzilla you want to share, or anything else, this is a great place to do it! We all thank you in advance

@R-Fey-Realme in the beauty of fables, Godzilla is a metaphor about the destructive nature of nuclear weapons.
There are a couple great articles about it but if I may share that we can sometimes get a bit dissapointed by some new stories as they get a sharknado treatment but there is a great amount of wonderful stories that can share a similar lesson or advice.
-
@makekong I didn't know that about Godzilla. I learned something new today!

There have been several reboots in Japan, plus 2 American produced universes. Each has different canon lore, so info gets complicated. Since we're here for children's books here are some friendly facts:
- Best friend is Anguirus the spikey turtle, frenemies with Rodan the flying dinosaur and Mothra the big moth.
- Has had a (adopted?) son in several canons.
- In one movie, Godzilla and Rodan fought each other for over a monster egg. Rodan having recently hatched next to the egg thinks it contains its sibling. The egg later hatches a Baby Godzilla. Nevertheless, Rodan protected the baby from all warring parties.
- Mothra, the only good monster in the lore, can be summoned into being by twin tiny-sized fairy women. Their singing awakens the mothra larva from its egg.
- Archenemies are King Ghidorah/Mecha-Ghidorah (the three headed dragon), Gigan (some off-world bird-beak cyborg monster with armed with meathooks and chainsaws) and robot doppleganger Mechagodzilla.
- Like Goku from Dragon Ball, can turn into super forms.
- Often fights monsters controlled by aliens (there are many) with the aim to conquer planet earth. (I'm waiting for Hollywood to get to this part of the story).
- Many of the monsters live on Monster Island. Godzilla is a hobo that sleeps wherever under the ocean.
-
@willicreate you got me singing

Hey everyone! Thank you to everyone who has shared their Godzilla wisdom! It has been enlightening and inspiring! Im excited to see what sort of amazingness yall cook up in the coming month!
I really liked how the guys took a minute to introduce the upcoming prompt at the end of the last livesteam. To recap to those who missed it, they said this is the time to let your creativity run wild. Come up with a story and make your own version of godzilla that is appropriate for the story and the audience (it helpful to know more or less what happens in the story so you can make an engaging and compelling cover—ie story advertisement). Include the title and by-line (the typography should also support your story. An out-of the-box type may detract from the feeling and punch, but you can trace over a font and get nice results if typography is intimidating to you).
Jake said “there are about 15 of you imagining what youre going to do right now—its a worms eye veiw, three point perspective, there are all these skyscrapers going up, and a giant godzilla foot in foreshortening coming down towards you—DONT, i repeat, DO NOT DO THIS Remember what we learned today, simplify simplify simplify. If you can draw the cutest coolest looking godzilla design, start there and build an illustration around that you will be much better off. AND PLEASE START NOW BY MAKING YOUR OWN MOODBOARD! Get all your reference and let it melt together into the image youre going to make.”
I made a lis of familiar childrens book themes/plots to get my brain working, i highly recommend you make your own crazy list or feel free to steal one straight from here

Its interesting that all of these images are without exception from a side view…. Hmm maybe the guys are right, simple is better…I hope these posts are as helpful and fun for you as they are for me!
See yall around! -
The only thing this prompt makes me think of is REPTAAAR!!!

Here's the thread from the last time there was a SVS Godzilla prompt (different but still fun to look back on!): https://forum.svslearn.com/topic/7622/june-contest-godzilla-s-next-challenger/98

@StudioLooong wow thanks for sharing that link—its really interesting!

HI! I'm still working "underwater", but already on the lookout for godzilla inspiration, and one old Porchi drawing of mine, from 2019, popped up:
Also this book came into my hands, quite by coincidence: (When pigs fly)
All this is a sign I will have to do the Godzila prompt!
-
Just started drawing this up, not sure if this is what I'll go with since I'm just getting started and we have so much time. Or who know, maybe I'll do a couple since its so much fun!
-
Just playing around. Working on character stuff.
Not sure what kind of story I want to do, but I just imagined something like 'My Son, Godzilla' with these characters. I'll keep messing about but thought it was kinda cute.
-
having fun with these so far!
There are going to be some really awesome images to come out of this prompt for sure
-
@makekong This is pretty cute!
-
I like the tiny terror Godzilla running amok on a farm with his mother hen trying to stop his shenanigans, so I think I will stick with it. Just getting a feel for the characters and story before I get into cover sketches.

Hey guys I needed a break from client work and thought I'd join in this round of How to Fix Your Art. Let me know if this image reads clear, and what your thoughts are... thanks!!!
