i really like the last one with the pirate, it tells more of a story. The container shes in doesnt matter as much, but a bottle would be more interesting than a fish bag i think. Number 5 isnt bad either. Number 1 could work if the kid is feeding her fishfood.

@Aleksey I had toyed with the story being a surprise win from a fair (hence the gold-fish bag... He won a mermaid!) But I agree that the pirate would likely have her in a bottle...

@Laurasketches I'm personally drawn to #6 and #8. I think #6 can offer some really interesting drawing challenges looking through the bag and #8 has a wide variety of values that could be fun--especially as the water seems to be the lightest source (is the mermaid glowing?). They're all great, but those two stick out to my eye the most. 🙂

              I like 1, 2, 6, 7.
The angles are really interesting even if they are slightly off from straight on.

@Laurasketches Number 8 grabbed me right away. You could have a really fun time hamming up that pirate and coming up with some strange ornate jar for the mermaid (I see something like a cracked chinese fishing float surrounded by old netting).

                Nice work so far 😃

@Laurasketches #8 has a clear story, and very fun. But I like the composition of #2 and #6 better. Maybe you could bring the pirate story element into other comps: something like adding a tattoo on the hand to indicate it is a hand of a pirate.

Cool thumbnails :-), lots of energy.

@Laurasketches Cool ideas! Overall #6 gets my vote. I like the compositions for 1, 2, and 6 the most. 8 has interesting content, but compositionally the two heads and the bag are all pretty similar sizes. i might try playing with making the bag larger and in the foreground (maybe combining elements of #6?) or something like that?

Number 6 really draws me in. It is the most interesting composition in my opinion. The boy's expression is great.

I love the look of the last one with the pirate, i'm already intrigued by the story so would love to see that one worked on more. Like others have said, it would look better if the mermaid was in a bottle and maybe she could have a colourful glow about her so you could do some awesome things with lighting and it would stand out. And really make that pirate look piratey 🙂

I am here too as for the pirate having her in a bottle. I took it more as he just stole the bag from the kid.

I love the idea of him looking through the bowl or bag. This pretty smart! Wouldn’t have thought Of that at all. Pirates are always cool.

I love #6 as well... the looking through the bag gives a great feel. I understand the desire for #8 with the addition of the supporting character and adding to the story.

I wonder if #8 would be stronger if the boy were looking through the bag with a look of wonder. Like the pirate is showing him some great treasure?

                              Just a thought...
